The Terre Haute Jammers are a non profit travel basketball team. The program was started in 1994. This team was started to teach young players of the community the fundamentals of basketball and to use these tools in a competitive game situation. At this time, the organization has been limited to only boys.
The Terre Haute Jammers were started by Brad Miley. He started the team because his oldest son, Josh wanted to be a part of an AAU basketball team. The team had a humble start, with homemade jerseys, and a group of boys that were picked among Josh\'s basketball friends. The first year, they played in one tournament and Coach Miley realized there was more to starting a team.
The next year, with fundraisers organized, uniforms were purchased both practice and game jerseys. Basketball tournaments were selected. A season was born.
Coach Miley emphasized basketball fundamentals which included ball handling, offensive power moves and defense.
Twenty two years later, the team is now continued with the same philosophies by son and former player Josh Miley.
Goals and Objectives
The original intent of the Jammers was to be able to provide competitive basketball experience to a travel team. As the team got older and college recruiters attended more tournaments, the goal became to help these young men extend their basketball careers while helping them further their education. Not only do the Jammers strive to help players extend their basketball careers, but they also strive to further help players continue their athletic career in their sport of choice.
The Jammers Today
Today, Coach Miley has handed the coaching duties to his oldest son, Josh, who will manage the latest Jammer\'s as he continues to develop basketball skills of children of the Wabash Valley.
As previously stated, the overall goal of the Terre Haute Jammers is to help young men extend their athletic careers while helping them further their education. Over the past twenty two years, many players of the Jammers have continued to play basketball at the collegiate level/professionally, but even more players have continued on in their sport of choice. Players have stated that the discipline, the work ethic and the sportsmanship learned from their Jammer experience carried over to other sports and affected their lives.
