Merrillville Former Trester Award Winner T.J. Lux
The 1995 Pirate team member that was runnerup to the Ben Davis Championship factory, is alive and well in Merrillville..After matriculating to Northern Illinois University ,Lux blossomed like no one predicted except IBN.We always said that TJ "had a great nose for the ball and had the physical toughness to bang in spite of his light frame ".In fairness to recruiter John Pigatti when he was at Western Michigan ,Pigatti had a home visit scheduled and somehow his Head Coach could not attend !!Any wonder why the program at WMU now has new leadership ???
The career of TJ Lux at Northern Illinos is now legendary !! The school's all time leader in both points and rebounds achieved more in his time as a Husky than even coach Brian Hammel could have imagined..At 6-9 and still a lithe 225 pounds, Lux was easily the best player in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. With small forward treyball range, Lux had to sacrifice his game and play post for the center starved program..Too good to be true some naysayers will predict....Lux has also earned both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in his five years at NIU....This spring his agent had him play in Germany for NBA camp preparation .After 6 games he tore his ACL Knee ligament..His surgery by world renowned Dr.Shellbourne proved more successful than most as he already is running and playing non contact hoops..Within four weeks he will be cleared to resume his dream in Italy.Where would he go in the NBA draft ,if healthy ,is the question many observers do ask ??
Considering Boilermaker Brian Cardinal went 44th, we expect per Marty Blake that T.J. would have at least been taken in the second round...Regardless of any timetable delays in the NBA professional career of TJ Lux, we predict that after his 2000-20001 season in Italy-TJ will emerge with an NBA contract...Ever since TJ made a name nationally for himself in July College exposure tourneys, he has steadily gained confidence in his potential....At NIU he dominated like a man amongst boys !! The entire BIG TEN Conference told IBN that they missed on him...Only Brian Hammel had the sense to relentlessly recruit Lux.The rest is history in the Northern Illinois University record books....Stay Tuned for updates on the Emerging Professional career of Merrillville, Indiana native--TJ Lux.

6-6 Carlton "oudie"Baker/East Chicago/Barton County Kansas- UPDATE.
The Talented small forward finished his frosh campaign averaging 19 ppg and 8 rpg.Under the stern guidance of Head coach Ryan Wolf(Martinsville,Indiana),Baker academically finished his first year with a 3.2 GPA.Recruiting is wide open Baker tells IBN. " I want a situation where they need me to play 35 minutes per game and score 20 points per game", Baker further stated..His favorites at this time are Memphis,Cincinnati,Houston,Louisiana Tech and UAB.We will keep you informed of all developments in the recruiting of Carlton Baker.

Attention Indiana Lady Prep Stars.
Thanks for signing up at IBN for The Top College Prospect workout.
The workout will be held September 9-10 at The Spiece Fieldhouse in Ft.Wayne Indiana..IBN will be conducting the boys workout and Nick Ray of Hoosierland Report will be conducting the girls workout. We will forward your online sign-ups to Nick.Be sure to Email him with all your questions will be selecting the invited participants in the near future.

Bobby Smith/ Carver High(Ill.)/East Chicago/Gary Roosevelt/East Coast Prep (1998)left the Big East Villanova Wildcat program in January..
In search of happiness at a new home, the much travelled playmaker is now deciding between Cleveland State and Southeast Missouri State. Many mid-western recruiters were shocked that any athlete would leave a situation where he was playing 30 minutes per game..Many more have not gotten involved with recruiting Smith this time around as they feel all SYF Amateur Club members are "locks" for Iowa State...We expect Bobby Smith to re-enter College Basketball at Southeast Missouri State.
Relocating is never easy and moving with friends is always easier.. Fellow Gary native 6-5 Monte Gordon has signed with Southeast Missouri State after a solid career at Kankakee Community Junior College.Gordon is also well travelled -splitting High School with Bishop Noll and Gary Roosevelt(1997) before signing initially with Valparaiso University..Stay tuned for Bobby Smith's decision.

Wednesday Afternoon 2:00 PM.
Late Breaking News.. 6-8 280 lb.KENNETH HARRIS/BISHOP NOLL INSTITUTE HAS VERBALLY COMMITTED TO VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY !!!!The 14 year old Class of 2003 phenom has officially told Homer Drew that he wants to play College Basketball for the Crusaders..."I wanted to get this decision over with ",Kenneth tells IBN .."I have been to their basketball camp and I like everything about Valparaiso University. The Campus is close to home and The Drew family are good people,Harris further stated..Affectionately referred to as " Baby Shaq ", by Indiana prep fans, Kenneth averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds in his freshman season at BNI-including a 25 point 14 rebound opening season debut vs.Gary Lew Wallace...Talent wise, Kenneth has soft hands and shoots a lefty "Sikma" like jumper when he is not dunking down low..His development to this point parallels that of Zach Randolph
The best potential recruit in Crusader history ,we expect many more Region athletes to follow Kenneth Harris's committment to VALPO. With 5 consecutive NCAA Tourney appearances and 5 consecutive Mid-Con Titles to their credit,No Indiana College has been more successful recently than Valparaiso University...Enter into the equation the Christian environment of the Drew Basketball Family, and few will wonder why Kenneth Harris and his family would want him to attend Valparaiso..Skeptics will scoff at the young man's decision and wonder why he does not wait for a bigger school and Prime Time TV exposure...Those very well may be the same people that do not understand that some athletes truly want to develop into educated men--not just basketball players..NBA player Bryce Drew has proven that all your dreams can be achieved atValparaiso University !!

Wednesday-June 28 , 2000
6-5 Trai Essex/Ft.Wayne Harding speaks for the first time concerning his AWOL as a Junior All-Stater at LaPorte.Trai tells IBN Tuesday evening that the entire situation was confusing to him.His Athletic Director told him the event was in Indianapolis. He lost the invitation letter ,found it while discovering no one could take him to the event..After he learned he had no transportation to the game, he also learned that he did not know who to contact...Frustrated at that point, Trai angrily went to the school's open gym to vent his fury on some rims. Not one adult in this teenager's life could plan some time to take him to this prestigious event!! IBN believes some adult would have insured that 6-9 Jared Adler/Adams Central,6-8 Paul Kopanski/Michigan City, and 6-6 Jackson Atoyebi/Culver Military would have been present for the game..Of course they needed to first be selected to the pint size junior team..Heck, 6-7 small forward Michael Dolezal/Michigan City Marquette was sitting in the bleachers..He could have at least lended some help to the guards that were asked to guard Zach, Brett an Jared. The Indiana All Stars needed no preparation this year for the horrific Kentucky team;but, most years they do need help and undersized Juniors will not suffice...Play ex college stars or industrial teams that can at least be competitive.
Incoming Senior Recruiting News
6-7 Scott Bushong/Ft.Wayne Carroll.

6-5 Tommy Dennis/Mooresville.(3.4 GPA )Moorehead State,Evansville,Elon,Earlham,Depauw,Anderson,Maine,many others.
6-7 Brandon Turner/Anderson Highland.Southern Illinois,IUPUI,Bowling Green and Nebraska.
Warren Central Coach Scott Heady tells IBN that he expects 6-8 Will Caudle to take visits to Iowa and Syracuse amongst others before he makes a decision on the standing Purdue offer.." If they want Will now , will they still want him in a month ? "- stated Heady....Too many athletes are pressured to committ before the July exposure period ...Major College programs want that verbal committment before their regional Stars can be seen by National College programs...Sure ,verbal committments are not binding but few athletes do not honor them....Caudle's sprained ankle should be healthy before the July 8 College Exposure Tip-Off ;so, his recruiting development should be interesting to follow...

Indiana Basketball News dedicates the players summer amateur club season to George Evans..Mr. Evans taught school for many years and his respect for Indiana's Game coaches, players and officials is unparalled ..Without his exuberance and disciplined teaching of Leigh Evans, hoosierland would not have the major vehicle for Basketball discourse and discussion that Leigh's hard work and passion for the game has created with Hickory Husker.... Hickory is easily the finest depot to talk Indiana Basketball and without question the best source for unbiased team reporting....For those reasons alone ,we recognize George Evans..George's legacy in son Leigh is now legendary !! Thank-you George Evans for Leigh Evans and for your contribution to young people in your daily teachings....

Top performers at the Senior To Be AAU State Championsip..
Monday we reported on the top all tourney performers of the final four...They were able to display their skill on a good team...Others were blessed with a good team -yet still managed to lose....Anyway, we will try and update you on top talent that exploded this weekend in spite of team success..
6-3 2G Bruce Horan/New Castle. The Class of 2002 best shooter may very well be this slender sniper from Steve Alford country. We saw him play two games and do not believe he missed more than four treys in at least twenty attempts..Shooting a quick high extending jumper,Horan's range is easily to 24' and probably further. He did have the advantage of Trojan teammateCorey Bennett tossing him the assists at every opportunity...We did not see much off dribble action from Horan;but, anyone that can stroke it with that range should be able to learn to become a threat off the drive..
6-4 shooter David Teague/Pike may be the best example as he proved he is equal to Kyle Hankins and all other guard prospects..Pike players like Teague rarely are able to prove their potential since the system is loaded with individual talent...Always under control and large with High Major athleticism, Recruiters should follow his progress with the Spiece Central Club....
6-5 Jay Dawson/Benton Central
Either is on fire or Ice cold..Scoring 16 points in one half or firing blanks has been his performance this spring as he has split time with meaningless school Track and Field...Dawson drilled Riverside for 16 first half points and should repeat that type of play now the focus is not diverted....
6-7 Melvin Bryant/Muncie Centralwill have the entire school year to prove he is as serious with the game as he has shown all spring....The Junior to be prospect needs to rise all aspects of his game; but right now ,he is a low post load that finishes all his shots .The big body banger bounds hard for every board in aggressive "Rodman" fashion .....Melvin will name where he plays collegiately if he qualifies academically..Class time at this point will be much more important than court time for Melvin...Every mid-major in the country must have a "paint soldier" like Melvin Bryant..
6-6 Robert Boykin/Warren Central banged with all posts in the state with the knowledge that he can play with anyone...Eligibilty and his desire to put to rest desire questions are always the questions that will ever separate Boykin from greatness....Will he put the time and work in ??? TIME WILL TELL...
5-10 10th grader Ryan Rooks exploded for 29 long range points vs. Quad City...The Southwestern High team leader showed much moxey and Rooks has Scott Skiles potential if he can prove it is for the long term...Rooks was shooting power jumpers from 23' and scoring off pull-ups from a variety of dribble moves ....Rooks is only going to be a sophomore at tiny Southwestern(Shelbyville)....

Monday-June 26 ,2000
6-8 Martin Brothers/1999 Arlington transfers to John Logan JC of Carterville,Illinois. The former Indiana All Star and member of Southeastern Iowa's National Championship team has been in search of a new JC home for six weeks now..Rapidly developing small forward skills, Martin hopes to be recruited as a small forward as he prepares his game for the NCAA D1 level.Gerald Alexander/1998 Arlington has decided not to attend Wabash Valley but to instead join Brothers at John Logan..Prep fans will remember the "jet" Gerald leading the Golden Knights of Arlington...With the previous signing of 5-8 scorer Michael Frazier/Charlestown ,Logan now have three impact weapons for the 2000-2001 season....Located minutes from Southern Illinois University, we expect the Salukis to now lead for Brothers.Remember - Martin is close friends with SIU's Sophomore 6-8 Jermaine Dearman/Warren Central.

BROWNSBURG-Bloomington Red Wins Senior To Be State Championship!!
Bob Pryor's Bloomington Red Army successfully defended their 17-under AAU crown by defeating Municipal Gardens 85-78.The Red reached the championship game by spanking SYF Players of Gary 88-48. Municipal had a much tougher final four game with Monsanto Love's Indy Metros squad. The disciplined "lights out "shooting Metros hung tough against the much larger Gardens team before falling 82-72. Championship game MVP was 6-3 Kyle Hankins/Bloomington South. The hi-rising jump shooter began the game on fire by draining three early treyballs and scoring 15 points in the first half...Finishing with 22,Hankins demonstrated why he is a mid to high major shooting guard prospect ..He has all the physical tools and his ability to play off the dribble is greatly increasing his "stock" in the eyes of recruiters.
Sean May/Bloomington North was boxed in double teams most of the evening but still was able to throw down 15 points, grab 12 boards and block 4 shots.
IU recruit Sean Kline/Huntington North was in foul trouble most of the evening but managed to score 12 points and grab 14 points before fouling out with four minutes into the final quarter ...Nobody played harder this weekend than Kline and his ballhandling skills are sharper each tournament...Once he gains confidence in his outside jumper,he will be nearly impossible to contain...
6-0 Terren Wilson/Warren Central struggled in the first half with some decision making; but, down the stretch he calmly drained 8 of 9 free throws during the Gardens desperation fouling frenzy.Wilson finished with 10 points and 7 assists.
Municipal's chances were diminished when6-8 Will Caudle/Warren Central severely sprained his ankle with 3:30 remaining in the first quarter.Reserve post 6-6 Mike Rhinehart/Homestead banged strong in the post but the Seans (May and Kline)were too much of a load inside..
6-4 Aaron Patterson/Ben Davis was a warrior this game as his quickness and explosion in the paint was hard for the larger "Red" to contain..He threw in 18 points while grabbing 12 rebounds.
One prep that is quickly rising through the rankings is 6-5 Bryant Dillon/Tech. The kid is extremely long, quick and in possession of point guard skills. He may very well have the most potential of anyone in the Class of 2001..This day he tossed in 14 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and surprisingly was on the pine during the final 3 minutes...
6-1 Chris Hill/Lawrence North was off the mark for the first 30 minutes and then kept Gardens hopes alive with 2 treyballs from the wing...Hill finished with 18 points while demonstrating more off the dribble skill than in past performances. Hill's toughest decision will be what Sport to play in College...Big Time in football as a QB , Hill is a solid mid-major shooting guard prospect....Both The Red and Municipal will represent Indiana at the National Championships tourney this July 24 -30 at Orlando,Florida...

The third place game between SYF and Indy Metro #2 was even for the distance before Lonnie Randolph/Merrillville was fouled with 1.1 second remaining..A bit long on the first freebie,Lonnie Jr. calmly sank the game winner to squeeze "Players" past Metros 75-74...Incredibly, 5-9 Avery Sheets/McCutcheon had a clean last second 30' shot at the buzzer that just fell short..On fire all weekend, that miss was only one of a few misses for the long ball shooter..In final 8 game action, Sheets tossed in 27 double overtime points to knock out Spiece Central Stars...Only a junior to be ,the McCutcheon shooting star must become more of a point guard for prospective college play;but,he has the work ethic for that task that is rapidly propelling him through the loaded Junior list of guards...Also key for the Metros all weekend long is the playmaking of 6-0 Curtis Thomas/Pike.Playing in the shadow of Mr. Basketball candidate Chris ,Curtis is a solid playmaker that penetrates to the lane as well as any Class of 2001 point guard..He may get lost in the huge Pike Red Devil talent pool but Alan Darner would be wise to have Curtis playmake for the scoring oriented Chris Thomas...
The SYF backbone is the power game of 6-5 Kenneth " skooch " Lampley/Gary Roosevelt...On paper like Aaron Patterson,Ken appears undersized for post play..Yet, the leftys "warrior paint spirit " has no equal in the Class of 2001..Banging strong at 215 pounds, Ken redefines the "active" term for college prospects..A quick explosive multi angle post scorer ,Lampley has solid small forward perimeter skills that are rarely seen since he is always the strongest post scorer on any team he plays on..University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and IUPUI must need soldiers because they called "skooch" on Wednesday..
Another SYF player demonstrating his huge potential is 6-9 Adam Schaper/Kankakee Valley..The Iowa State early committment is gradually adding muscle to his large frame..Truly having great offensive skill,Schaper drained threes this weekend and finished post shots under fire ....Continued strength gain is all Adam needs in order to have a good career at Iowa State...Tuesday-More top Brownsburg performerances and Senior recruiting news..Stay Tuned!!!

Wednesday Thursday-June 22 ,2000
INDIANA ALL STARS 118-JUNIOR ALL-STATE TEAM 86.After playing the reserves for thirty significant minutes,Coach Dave McCullough decided to win the game by allowing his three men to take over the game.Zach Randolph led with 20,Brett Buscher followed with 19 and Mr.Basketball Jared Jeffries threw down 16....IBN publisher Reg Tisdale renewed old acquaintances with the Stars as they gave autographs to elementary students..Apparently Star Shane Power/Andreanhas a problem with IBN because Power profanely heckled Tisdale as Reg greeted Zach,Andre and Jared...We welcome all debates concerning our rankings and evaluations...But, talk to us civily in private and not profanely in front of Elementary students...Witnesses were shocked beyond belief !! We wish the 6-4 small forward the best in his College career at Iowa State....Certainly, If we did not think Power was a great High School player--we would never have voted for him to the Indiana All Star team....
Junior Team news(Senior To Be athletes)...6-2 Johnny Miller/Muncie Central. The mega soaring athlete reports that he is taking a class in order to increase his core GPA...This night he was the Junior with the most moxey as he drove the lane with confidence enroute to 13 points. Johnny earned each point as he tried to DUNK on the All-Stars with every opportunity...If Johnny can develop more playmaking skill, the NBA is his future ...Ballhandling skills of Miller need improved and must be elevated....Purdue verbal Brandon Mcknight did what he does best and that is playmake to the shot happy fellow Jr. All-Staters....Mcknight truly was the only Junior willing to pass the ball other than Homegrown Nick Otis....
Chris Thomasplayed well and basically demonstrated that he is a combo as he scored 20 points from long and in the lane....Playing with playmaker Mcknight,Thomas was free to play wing guard..The Irish of Notre Dame have their best guard verbal prospect in many years... Lonnie Randolph/Merrillville led all Junior scorers with 22 points...Quick on quick, he can playmake and score from the wing...Lonnie told IBN that he wants to attend Indiana University and play point ...Donald Perry is the IU target but continued stellar play from Randolph may merit serious consideration....Randolph is a lock for Mid -Major conferences...Troubled we are at IBN when a prospect like Randolph asks us to "hook him up because no one is looking out for him." Players must perform in July and Lonnie is with The Gary SYF Club....They travel extensively in July....Obviously Merrillville is actively promoting Randolph....His July performance will surely merit several NCAA mid major offers ....Possibly High Majors will pursue the talented East Chicago native;but, recuiters can be sure that they will be competing with Franklin College for Lonnie, Jr in the same manner that 6-0 Marvin Smith was being recruited by the Small College this past spring...
6-8 Will Caudle/Warren CentralHit one desperation three in garbage time and missed two freebees...We did not view the South game but he was no factor this night...He was basically benched in favor of a 5 guard offense...The ploy worked for thirty minutes until Zach got angry and decided to win the game....6-6 Andrew Laird/Penn was often foolishly asked to guard the post...He battled ,but being a 6-6 perimeter player at 190 pounds was too much to ask....6-4 Nick Otis/Laporte is a guard on the rise in IBN rankings....The kid shoots from 24' ,is strong at 190 and has a winning spirit unmatched in Northern Indiana...Being lefty is a plus in addition to having the genetic hoop brilliance of his father coach Joe Otis...Due to ommitting post "no brainer" selections like6-9 Jared Adler/Adams Central and 6-8 Paul Kopanski/Michigan City,Nick Otis was forced to helplessly battle Zach Randolph inside....His effort was admirable but let's face it --The Pacers needed Zach inside... A whole different story but also possibly a new story since the whole world has received their SAT scores except Zach....We expect the MSU signee to now prop 48..Declaring for the NBA was his best option only when you consider the experts say he would be in the top ten of the first round....His desire for MSU has been large and we think he will honor that committment....However, High school grads that are capable of proving A fnancial need are also given special consideration for early NBA entry...Zach qualifies under all aspects of the NBA hardship rule....Someone please tell IBN why 6-5 Dennis Coutee/Jeffersonville and 6-5 250 lb. Trai Essex/Ft. Wayne Harding could not find time in their NIKE schedule to compete in this game ????Coutee's bombs from long and Essex inside muscling could have been the difference in this game....No??? Then why were they selected for the NIKE Top 150 Natonal camp-- with only Indiana Juniors Sean Kline , Chris Thomas, Chris Hill and who knows else ----as NIKE's list of Indiana Preps is apparently a secret...Coutee and Essex do not show for a major pre- season showcase of their talents in view of the All Star establishment... Why ? HOW many players would die for the chance to represent the Class of 2001 ???

Wednesday-June 21 , 2000
Depauw "Lands" Osiris...
After missing The Ivy League's application deadline,Lands was contemplating a prep school route for next season..Bill Fenlon's Lilly Foundation Grant at Depauw has inticed Osiris to receive his IVY LEAGUE education in Greencastle, Indiana....Yes, Southport's Valedictorian and Indiana Basketball News 2000 Scholar Athlete of the year- has committed to Depauw University ..Averaging 15 ppg and 7 apg. Lands led the Cardinals to the Sectional Championship over IU bound Andre Owens and Perry Meridian...More importantly,Osiris Lands led Southport High School in Academics while also registering a 1450 SAT..Not good enough for The IBCA twenty five man All-State Academic Team, Osiris Lands epitomizes excellence in student-athletes...IBN Salutes Osiris Lands !! Hoosier Shootout Announces their July 8 - 11 college exposure tourney schedule...48 National teams begin the preliminary pool play at noon on July 8 .Pool play action continues to July 9 at 10:30 PM.CHAMPIONSHIP round begins at 9 AM on July 10 with the final four games concluding at 11 AM ..THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IS SCHEDULED FOR 2 PM on July 11....The tourney is annually held at the Indy Southside Sports Park....Questions should be directed to Bob Pryor at :812-336-4516.....

Tuesday-June 20 , 2000
No two teams in the age group are more evenly matched than Bloomington Heat and Spiece Central Stars. Both teams have an answer for the other at each playing position...Every possession is a battle and this title game was a WAR !! The Heat emerged victors this time 57-54 over Spiece.
Tourney MVP-6"7" Sam Pharr/Rockville
All Tourney Performers:
6-4 Bil Duany/Bloomington North
6-5 Brandon Crone/Frankfort
6-0 Chris West/Speedway
5-8 Zach Decatur/Cathedral
6-5 Parnell Smith/Pike
6-1 Mousa Kante/Bloomington North
6-4 Kristoff Kendrick/Lafayette Catholic
6-4 Dan Cage/Chatard
6-5 Deondre Peyton/Chatard
6-4 Justin Cage/Pike
THE SOPHOMORE TO BE National Championship tourney is July 1-8 in Kingsport, Tennessee
COLUMBUS-Junior To Be AAU State Championship. The annual 16-under AAU state championships has converted to a grade level format vs. an age requirement.Basically, any prep who was in the tenth grade this past school year was eligible to participate. The fine class of 2002 from Southwestern Indiana has dominated competition this spring/summer.Warrick County defeated The Spiece Pistols 69-49 for the state title.David Elkins championship squad "shoots the lights out."Once they gain an eight point lead they will "cat and mouse" their opponent to sleep and then penetrate the lane for easy buckets.
Tourney MVP--6-8 Matt Kiefer/Evansville Mater Dei.Top Tourney Performers:
5-11 Bryan Mckain/Boonville
6-0 Ryan Mckain/Boonville
6-0 Dedrick Finn/Castle
6-8 Kevin Cates/Marion
6-8 Tyler Best/Lafayette Central Catholic
6-3 Josh Gomes/Heritage Christian
5-10 Patrick Mallory/Evansville Mater Dei..
The National Championships are June 28- July 4 at Detroit, Michigan...Unbelievably the National AAU Office has chosen to have the Nation's finest in the class of 2002---Compete during a NO COLLEGE EXPOSURE period of time...Understand now why many National Clubs are no longer interested in National AAU?? Many players and parents will choose to save their finances (travel, lodging, food, entry fees, etc.) for the tournaments held during the open July 8- July 31 NCAA evaluation period....This is a crucial time for the 2002 Class to begin receiving College exposure as they begin competing for scholarships....
Monday-June 19,2000
6-8 Will Caudle/Warren Central needed to cancel his unofficial visit to Purdue due to a family reunion...We expect Caudle to visit Purdue next week. When asked this Saturday if he was ready to commit to the Boilers ,Caudle replied that his parents had not met coach Keady before and that was necessary before he ever made a committment...Caudle played well this past weekend at the Brownsburg State AAU tourney..His Indy westside club won their pool play action ...They advance now to next weekend's single elimination tournament..They will tip-off 3 PM Saturday at the Brownsburg Junior High ....6-5 Chris Ikpoh/Michigan City chooses The University Of Chicago. The deep shooting combo forward has decided to join 6-7 Scott Fisher/Bloomington North at the academically elite Chicago private school.Chris is a late bloomer in basketball as this past season was his first season playing Varsity....Averaging 14 ppg. and 7 rpg.,Chris also considered similar offers from Oberlin and North Park College.
Mcknight wins the battle but "The Red Army Wins the war."Sunday morning 9 AM at the Brownsburg junior high, the class of 2001's top point guard prospects battled on the same court for the first time...6-2 Brandon Mcknight/South Bend Lasalle/Purdue leads Spiece Central Stars while 6-1 Chris Thomas/Pike/Notre Dame and Terren Wilson/Warren Central both propel Bloomington Red...If Thomas and Wilson are not enough then "Red" can replace them with The Class of 2002 top point guard-6-0 Brandon Mcknight/Gary Westside....Mcknight was the better player this game scoring 21 points and tossing 6 assists..Chris Thomas finished with 14 points and 4 steals while Terren Wilson scored 16 points and tossed 5 assists...."The Red." won the game 76-67 primarily due to the inside dominance of 6-8 Sophomore All-American Sean May/Bloomington North and 6-7 Indiana recruit Sean Kline/Huntington North.Finishing with 26 points,May is clearly the most dominating Indiana prep the next two seasons...He told IBN that he has not seriously talked with his parents about a college choice but that he will consider the entire BIG TEN except Purdue.... Cancelling out the Boilers so prematurely must also signal that IU is virtually a lock...Only a staunch IU fan would consider the entire BIG TEN except Purdue...Let's face it.Father legend Scott is an Icon in Bloomington and reportedly is on good terms with The General....However,if anything would sway "the big fella" elsewhere it may be the fact that he forever more will be compared to his father in an Indiana jersey....Many young people would not want to constantly be compared to their father....As always,Time will tell!!! Scoring 16 points and "pushing the ball" on the fast break,Kline physically had no advantage over the "Central Stars" post players. What makes Kline so effective is his mental focus and ability to anticipate court action..He knows where every rebound is headed and he expertly reads individual defense to find his openings..Kline is relentless in each ball possession and he does not stop playing until a dead ball...Also playing well for Spiece, 6-0 combo guard Jake Wiltrout/Plainfield had 14 points and 6-6 power forward Jackson Atoyebi/Culver Military Academy scored 12 ,grabbed 8 boards while banging the post with the 250 lb. Sean May. Both Bloomington and Spiece now advance to next weekends championship round action...

Purdue Will offer 6-8 Will Caudle/Warren Central this Sunday during his unofficial visit...
The potentially huge power forward prospect will be offered a scholarship this Sunday during his unofficial visit with Head Coach Gene Keady. Why would Big Time Purdue extend an offer to a player that at the least was questionable for his High School Warren Central...? Because, in spite of his mediocre 13 ppg. and 9 rpg. statistics for a post player, Caudle's "upside" is huge !!The kid runs the floor, bangs inside, changes or blocks shots and has a frame that can add 30 pounds of muscle....Physically he is gifted with a broad shouldered frame, long arms and a big drop step vertical...."Active" is always a popular verb in describing prospects and "Big Will" is as active as posts come....His achilles heel has always been "stone hands" but like every thing else about his game ,they are improving...His core GPA must improve his senior year as the Warren Central guidance department had him as a transfer from Roncalli -not exactly on a core curriculum...."Farther advanced academically than Jermaine Dearman was " is how Warren Central coach Scott Heady has described Will Caudle...Recruiters will remember the 6-7 Dearman qualifying late and then signing with Boiler Bruce Webber's Southern Illinois program...Dearman also achieved all newcomer honors in the rugged Missouri Conference this past 2000 season...Will Caudle in contrast to Dearman has a higher core GPA at the same stage as Dearman ....He has not yet taken the SAT but his high PSAT score is a predictor for Academic Success in College...Iowa and Syracuse also are leaders for Caudle ....Will he visit those schools or committ to Purdue this Sunday....? After playing against All American Zach Randolph/Marion/Michigan State in the Southern Indiana Junior All State vs. Indiana All Star matchup , Will proved to our # 1 talent consultant that he is a cannot miss high major. That source of Information is none other than America's best player-Zach Randolph..."Tis"-"Caudle is long and strong. If he works ,he will be a very good player in the BIG TEN " ,so stated Mr. Randolph....Like Brandon Mcknight, Caudle may choose Sunday afternoon to accept Gene Keady's offer or he may choose to take his time and visit the other High Majors....Time Will Tell...Boilermaker Fans can watch Will Caudle first hand in rugged State AAU action this weekend at Brownsburg, Indiana...His state final 16 qualifying pool play is weak to say the least but Boiler fans can view him being challenged by a quality "Cobra "outfit at 6 PM Saturday in the Brownsburg Jr. High Gymnasium.....The Cobras are from East Central Indiana and are "loaded"with Muncie players...
State AAU used to be a national badge of honor..
Teams would battle in a 70 team statewide tourney in order to gain one of 4 finishes that would allow them to advance Nationally to America's only National tourney...Now that NIKE and ADIDAS have organized tourneys, teams simply prefer to play where "the players play" so to speak..AAU requires participants to have individual entry forms completed, have a membership card completed and paid for by $10.00 per athlete and $14.00 per coach..Ridicuously they also require a picture of the athlete and a birth certificate....Why would anymore than a signed principal statement- that concurs the athlete competed in his legal association be enough for competition?? National AAU is down to 1000 Indiana participants from previously 8000....Understand now -why for the first time ever that Indiana has been allowed to send not who qualifies -but who wants to travel and participate in their "watered down" tourney.....Advertising that the first 20 respondents by grade level will be accepted is a total joke....Why does National AAU lose annually the number of participants....?Everything starts at the top....Without new progressive leadership, National AAU and the entire National Organization will be basically ignored and then be a thing of the past with a sound repertoire of jokes...
Sophomores,Juniors and Senior To Be State AAU This Weekend
Senior to be preliminary pool play begins 6 PM Friday evening at Brownsburg Jr. High..The state championships conclude June 23-24 in Brownsburg..Juniors Final 16 begins 12 noon at Columbus East High School...Final 16 Sophomore to be state finals return Saturday 12 noon at Carmel High School...."Hoop Junkies" prep sport fans and unofficial college team recruiters (you know who you are) have a golden opportunity to view the finest college prospects in Central Indiana !! See you at the Games!!

Eastwood Middle school's 6-5 Nick Maynard enrolls at Cathedral....
The incredibly gifted Maynard is the future " man in the middle " for new coach Scott Hicks program on the near eastside of Indianapolis.North Central lost the Yates brothers to Pike Township and now they lose Maynard to Cathedral....Understand now why Pike 8th graders 6-4 Robert " #1 talent in class of 2004" Vaden and 6-0 Desmond Gadis have enrolled at Cathedral...? Gardner is still growing and he should peak at 6-8....We admit that we missed on him earlier but we sometimes are only as good as our "ears and eyes ".Thanks for the many EMAILS about the Yates move and the Mike Davis ,Jr. transfer....The Yates move is still too strange for comprehension when one considers Donald was a state champion at the school and that sophomore Darren was the shooting guard future for three years...Many of your EMAILS cite Donald being disciplined by Coach Mitchell as the reason for departure....We do not believe for a minute that any parent would move from a school system as elite as North Central is -just because the coach had to discipline his "star" junior....
Mike Davis,Jr. on the other hand, is a talented 6-3 incoming sophomore that is good defensively and also very good " off the dribble offensively ".IU coach Davis is a realist in the sense that he is smart enough to realize that jr. would be a very good player at Bloomington North ....At Perry Meridian, Jr will be asked to carry a great deal more scoring load while the younger high major prospects like Justin Petty and Austin Montgomery are allowed to develop slowly.... Both Petty and Montgomery have proven their "mettle" as wing players at their grade level....Time will Tell if the young kids plus steady senior playmaker Ryan Tapak is enough to advance in the tough Indpls. sectional....Last season Perry Meridian lost to Southport in sectionals at the hands of IBN Scholar athlete of the yearOsiris Lands....Lands is the school valedictorian and owner of a 1400 SAT....HE is Still searching for an academic school that needs his combo guard skills....Rice was a silly "Hickory" post by some kid ...Blame who in this serious situation???? As of June 15 -Osiris has no scholarship offer...Lands uncle is Steve Downing !! Is the Ivory Tower at Indiana so arrogant that Downing cannott even help his relative with huge academics find a good scholarship situation??What college recruiter would not seriously listen if Steve Downing called ??Apparently more important matters consumed his time like defending his "boss"-Bob Knight....GEEZ!! Southport does not even recommend Lands for IBCA academic honors .. That is bizarre beyond belief and then to stomach the academic Lands not having a school plan by June 15 ?? Now do you understand the importance of preps playing before recruiters during legal evaluation times ?? Lands did not play and now he is faced to rely on people that can not or will not be able to help him...

Yates brothers move to Pike school district.
Athletes without question will annually transfer to schools where they feel the situation has more of an opportunity....Donald Yates as a contributor to the 1999 North Central state champion , is a shocker to be moving minutes away to Pike township." The teams best shooter" is how coach Doug Mitchell described his Panther workhorse ..What fortunate athlete to win a state basketball championship in Indiana-ever moved to the bordering school district before his senior year....EMAIL us with your answers....6-1 Darren Yates is one of the Class of 2003 top shooting guard prospects...He would have also been key in the North Central Panther plans for three years....
Things obviously happen for better or worse as we have confirmed that6-3 sophomore Mike Davis,Jr. will be transferring to Perry Meridianfrom Bloomington North....Apparently IU asst. Mike Davis has bought a house in Perry Township..Coach Davis understandably built a sound relationship with Perry Meridian coach Barnhizer during the recruitment of Andre Owens.Prep fans will remember Mark Barnhizer attending Purdue and then transferring to Auburn when Mike Steele played before him at Purdue...We have no idea why Owens did not consider Purdue but we do know Purdue was not given a second thought by Owens...We do not have that answer...We do not even care that he lived next to Warren Central his entire career but still travelled every morning to the Southside of Indianapolis.....We are troubled though that he is in search of a position at Indiana when he should be a point guard "in the making."Andre has a chance to be good at Indiana and IBN loves his fierce approach ,but why is Indiana in search of Point guards with Andre on board for four years...? Will he play shooter or small forward at Indiana ??? No Way!! Then why was he signed in the first place..??IBN fans of Indiana should ask that question .EMAIL us with your conclusions...
North Central and Pike are both of Indianapolisand their 8th and 9th graders are truly evaluating where they may fit in future or present plans...6-4 Robert Vaden and brother Desmond Gadis are elite incoming freshman that live in Pike but will attend Cathedral High School....Father Dave and brother Mack were both Indiana All-Stars at Pike ..Those neighborhood medals mean one thing..Dave Gadis's father felt Pike was the best place for his two sons under the tutelage of Ed Siegel....Apparently Gadis believes Cathedral is the vehicle where his sons Robert and Desmond can achieve similar goals....IBN applauds all fathers that actively take part in their children's lives!!!
Class of 2002 is Loaded with NCAA DIVISION 1 PROSPECTS!!
The following tremendous prospects are the high major prospects of a very deep incoming Junior prep class:
6-8 Sean May/Bloomington North-"The legend's son is Indiana prep world's best post player the next two years. Has all the tools for greatness if he will continue with focused conditioning."
6-8 Tyler Best/Lafayette Catholic-
"Small forward with point guard skill and mentality.Already has a Purdue offer."
6-2 Antwan Alexander/Indianapolis Arlington- "25 feet range and explosiveness unmatched in America!" Iowa leads for Alexander.
6-9 Chris Hunter/Gary Westside."Truly has shooting guard ball handling skills .Agile shot blocker must gain muscle mass if he plans to stay in the post.Huge upside if he works."
6-4 Anthony Winchester/Austin-"Long armed shooter has combo skill when necessary but this kid's to good from 24'triple threat to have him playmaking."
6-8 Delco Rowley/Arlington-"Mean and agressive in paint with a Glen Robinson type body.Attitude has been questionable but not his on court warrior spirit." Being a Seventh Day Aventist has limited his weekend participation.
6-0 Brandon Cameron/Gary Westside-"Total point guard package! Yes,some can do aspects of the game better but no one plays both ends of the court at the level Brandon does."
6-0 Dedrick Finn/Castle"Similar to Cameron ,except Finn shoots it better while Cameron defends much stronger.A Jason Gardner look alike-with work, Finn may reach Gardner ability level."
6-8 Matt Kiefer/Evansville Mater Dei."Long, springy gazelle appears to have 2 inches remaining.Nice skill-just needs some bulk."
6-4 Marques Bennett/Brebeuf."Physically gifted point guard prospect that plays with smooth court savvy.Does Marques want to be a great player ?" Time Will Tell
6-2 Deric Graham/South Bend Lasalle."This cat looks like Mike Tyson and is more aggressive. His strength allows him to play inside and his skill is that of a combo.Defensively he will flat out break your heart!!"
6-8 Justin Johnston/Merrillville"Broad shouldered ,long armed banger sat too much at MV this season but he will blossom this summer with the SYF James Dye Club from Gary..Potential is LARGE if he will put the time in."
5-10 Craig Schoen/South Central(Elizabeth)"State's purest playmaker has dropped 51 points in a game and has scored 1000 in his first two prep seasons.Truly he has the John Stockton perfect decision making ability."
6-1 Seth Colclasure/Belmont."3.9 GPA and a near perfect jumper to match.93% free throw shooter.Perfect motion offense type shooter.Valparaiso has offered and High major interest is brewing."
6-2 James Banks/Ben Davis"NFL prospect as Quarterback and superb shooting guard prospect..As a prep, he just plays wherever needed."
6-3 Tyler Clevenger/Winchester"Would be a better prospect if he would develop a playmaking mentality .To this point he is content to slash and score.Jumper now is a triple consistent threat to 22'.Has all the physical tools if he chooses to continue elevating his game."
6-8 Kevin Cates/Marion"Big banging post has nice vertical and tremendous power potential in the paint.A state champ at Marion,Kevin expects to win and is playing this spring with pins in his upper torso.Cates is as tough as they come!!"
6-1 Greg Stone/Lawrence Central"His legal guardian is now IUPUI asst. coach Kevin Jones so we expect the Jaguars to lead if Greg will ever become solid academically.Similar to Alexander in that his jumper is beautiful to 25' and his explosiveness is WORLD CLASS!! Here is hoping he develops academically."
6-8 Andrew Kriegers/Lawrence Central"Big guy has always been a strong finisher inside. With work he will develop a more refined skill to match his large frame."
6-9 John Morningstar/Concord"Academically he is a perfect 4.0 GPA and skillwise he is 3.5/4.0.Physically he is strong, but to play in a BIG Conference he must increase his aggressiveness and activeness in the post by several times over. The Good News is that he has two and one half years to develop a "junkyard Dog" type of post enforcing demeanor...
Several more incoming Juniors have potential for NCAA DIVISION 1. They may very well "pass up" this tremendous twenty..We do not have a desire yardstick..The Top twenty may become complacent and fall short of their potential...Incoming Indiana Juniors have a great deal of time to become the best student-athletes that they possibly can...Time Will Tell what Preps will Choose to reach their potential....Class of 2003 is next.Stay Tuned!!

IBN interviews IU TOP POINT GUARD TARGET-DONALD PERRY/ McCall High School (Tutaloo,Louisiana).
6-1 180lb. Donald Perry
is the rare out of state athlete that IBN will ever pursue for an interview..Since Indiana barely recruited Chris Thomas/Pike/Notre Dame and were even softer on Brandon Mcknight/South Bend Lasalle/Purdue ,we thought our readers needed to know why....Let's face it , All BIG THREE schools need point help in the Class of 2001...How good is Donald Perry?? He defends like Andre Owens but plays at a much higher level at the offensive end...Scoring 25 ppg. and tossing 8 apg., Perry has no real weakness on the court..Remember, his teammate is Maurice Williams /Alabama committed .. Williams is considered by many to be the best National point in the Class of 2001.... "Wide open at this point", Perry told IBN....Indiana and 'Ole Miss lead at this time with Texas, Louisiana Tech , and Tennessee all tied for second...He further states that he plans to play through July before he makes a decision...So, Indiana fans will have to wait for a decision from Perry... Son of a Doctor, Perry is solid academically with a 3.45 GPA and a desire to "blow up" his College entrance test score....Playing with the New Orleans Jazz Club this summer, Perry will be participating in Las Vegas and End of summer Adidas tourneys....While many thought his decision would be soon ,Donald Perry will probably be playing through July before he committs verbally to any College....Time Will Tell....
6-0 Kyle Bixler/Jeffersonville/Olney Central College has chosen to play the next two years at The University of Charleston in West Virginia....Primarily a shooter, we expect the son of the former great Jeffersonville coach Mark (deceased), to have a tremendous finish in NCAA D2 basketball....
Prep athlete transfers and 8th grader prep school choices....
6-1 8th grader Petey Trgovich/Munster
is the best pure shooter in the Class of 2004....The son of Legend Pete Sr. will be taking his jumper and all-state tennis game to Andrean High....Kristoff Kendrick/LCC will not be following his father to Gary..
He will remain at state Class 1A power LCC....Sophomore 5-10 Craig Shuck /Nortwestern is a possible move-in at LCC.... INDIANAPOLIS top 8th grader is 6-4 Ryan Baker and the strong post player will attend Indpls. Chatard....The only question surrounding Baker is if he will grow anymore...Strong in the post as a player" playing up" , Baker must become a small forward if his physically mature appearing stature does not stretch to 6-7...
We also expect Deondre Peyton to leave Lawrence Central in favor of Chatard.... Playmaker 8th grader Gary Patterson of East Chicago has told many people that he is attending Hammond Bishop Noll Institue....5-8 Soph. Mitchell Daniels/East Chicago is not going to Florida or anywhere else....Drake Morris is the son of East Chicago legend Drake senior...Jr. is not in any trouble with the school or anyone else....Senior "Moosie" Peterson/East Chicago.... We have learned that Peterson is returning to play his final season and he prefers to play in his hometown
Much More surprising News on Wednesday
Sunday-June 11, 2000
The South Bend Lasalle playmaker tells IBN this evening that he has chosen The Boliermakers over offers from Iowa State, Xavier,Bowling Green,Indiana State,Northern Illinois and Ball State....Just this week Ohio State expressed interest in becoming involved in the recruitment of Junior Brandon Mcknight... Stating," new schools were calling his coach everyday ". He said he was very tired of the process and that he felt very comfortable with coach Gene Keady and the Boilermaker players....Averaging 20.3 ppg. and 7.8 assists per game at Lasalle, Mcknight has been chosen as a member of the Junior All-State team that will be scrimmaging this year's Indiana All-Star team....Boilermaker fans still upset over losing Chris Thomas/Pike to Notre Dame, will be pleasantly surprised when they observe the hugely talented Mcknight....Mcknight has the ability to "make things happen" when the offense is not executing...His ability to penetrate the lane "at will", places an incredible amount of pressure on the opponent..Shooting has been streaky in the past, but workouts with coach Mark Johnson has made him a dangerous triple threat to 23'....Boilermakers can view their new point guard recruit Sunday,June 18 at Brownsburg,Indiana as he leads his Spiece Club vs. Chris Thomas and the Bloomington Red Club....Tip-off is 9 A.M. Thomas or Mcknight ??? You Be The Judge !!!
Friday -June 9 ,2000
With two seconds remaining and the score tied at 90, super sophomore 6-8 Sean May/Bloomington North hit the winning free throw to push the "Red" past Team Indiana ....Jared Jeffries scored 33 for the losers while Andre Owens chipped in 24...Dennis Coutee/Jeffersonville DNP for Bloomington and Johnny Miller/Muncie Central has now left Bloomington Red due to low academic reports CARMEL, INDIANA- 6'8" 280 LB.(FRESHMEN) Kenneth Harris/Hammond Bishop Noll Institutemakes his AAU state debut at the Carmel Athletic Fieldhouse today at 6:30 P.M.His Gary club also features 6-5 Naquohn Jackson/Gary Roosevelt,6-5 Jamar Nash/Gary Roosevelt,6-0 Larry Upshaw/Gary Roosevelt and 5-10 Jawaan Turner/Hammond High.....
They will face Gary Betts "NO EXCUSES" entry that features 6-5 Adam Liddell/Dekalb, 6-4 Justin Cage/Pike ,6-0 Darren Yates/Indpl. North Central and 5-8 Mitchell Daniels/East Chicago Central..The best freshmen in Indiana will converge on Carmel this weekend in what will be the smallest 9th grade tourney in the history of state AAU....Slowly, IHSAA summer participation rules and competing tourneys have diminished the interest in AAU Basketball.....
Indiana's only class of 2001 non committed point guard with offers is South Bend Lasalle's 6-2 Brandon Mcknight..Mcknight visited Purdue yesterday unofficially for the second time and still has not committed....He may very well commit to the Boilers before July or he may very well wait until all interested schools observe his July performance....No other Indiana senior to be point guard has gotten close to an offer besides Chris Thomas/Notre Dame..Mcknight has his choice of Xavier,Purdue,Iowa State,Bowling Green,Indiana State and Northern Illinois....Many other High Majors desire to evaluate his play in July....
Dennis Coutee /Jeffersonville leaves Bloomington Red NIKE travelling Amateur Club...IBN'S Top 2001 Shooting guard prospect has formally discontinued his participation in Indiana's only Nike sponsored basketball prep program...Apparently he was not receiving many "touches" on the wing thus far this spring....Yet, to be honest- the guy was not around much for various reasons....In Louisville NIKE action, most observers saw Coutee waving for the ball on the wing while others took the shots.... Red mentor Bob Pryor has been at the helm for 25 years and has annually had 12 players looking for their shot....Dissapointing is this turn of events because Coutee had built his National reputation with "The Red " but now has no trouble walking away when things are not going his way....He will play in NIKE camp and seemingly is now content to rely on that performance and past reputation for his College scholarship....Indiana with no scholarship to give is probably his favorite but Louisville and Iowa are involved for the "two guard in the making ". Expect Coutee to also join a National program this July that needs his long range treyballs....6-6 Ric Wyand/Franklin Central has watched thus far on "The Red " bench..Coutee's departure may now allow (the shooting small forward/defensive power forward) Wyand a playing time window of opportunity....The Nike Sports Plex in Bloomington plays host this weekend to a huge junior and senior to be tourney....Sean Kline and Chris Thomas will both be participating along side Indiana preps best post player in the 2000-2001 season6-8 (So.) Sean May/Bloomington North
Thursday-June 8 , 2000
Senior College Choice News-6-4 IBN favorite Andrew White/Penn has met with Rutgers, Miami,Ohio and Central Michigan of late in order to choose a freshman walk-on situation....Central Michigan wins out for many reasons none the least is the fact that Andrew is needed in a year as a scholarship player....Here is hoping his recruiter will be around to watch him develop because the program does not produce much success on the court....6-9 Brian Kane also of White's beloved Penn took the opposite approach to High School Basketball that White took....While White was in the gym or weight room, Kane was at the lake or in the library....Last July when all preps play that covet a scholarship, Kane was a no show for Roger Yoder's solid team....Brian Kane will begin his collegiate career at Scottsdale Junior College...Hopefully in two years he will develop necessary skill and desire for a run at a NCAA D1 OR D2 scholarship....6-6 Sinisa Komatina /Park Tudor has chosen to play college basketball at Glen Oaks Junior College....
6-3 CJ HILL of Ben Davis has chosen Wabash Valley JC in Southern Illinois over 25 similar Junior College suitors...6-4 John Fissette/South Bend Riley has chosen Anderson University over several similar small college offers....6-6 255 lb Fred Long /Indpls. Lawrence North has shocked IBN by announcing to play College Basketball at Parkland JC in Champaign....Do not be surprised if the "big fella " becomes side tracked with football at Parkland....With work Fred Long can become a solid mid-major basketball prospect;but, with academics Long becomes a BIG TEN and NFL prospect....
Wednesday-June 7 ,2000
6-6 Andrew Laird/ Penn High School
has had to play a great deal of post for Penn since older athletes in the football empire have never produced like they should have in the basketball program....However, we must say that late bloomer 6-7 long armed Justin Hanig has real mid-major potenetial if he applies himself the next 12 months.6-0 Jim Modlinalso is a very talented combo guard that displays playmaking and scoring skill....Laird has been selected by the coaches association for the Junior All-State team that will practice against the Senior Indiana/Kentucky All-Star team...A deadly shooter from deep treyball land, IBN is the first publication that realizes Laird is a legitimate D1 shooting guard prospect....Possessing a 3.8 core GPA and 60 out of his 600 graduating class , Laird will qualify for all academic schools....Currently , he plans near future unofficial visits to Iowa, Northwestern,Bowling Green,Northern Illinois and possibly Cornell and Harvard....Lehigh recruits all preps in Indiana and then signs no one, so time will tell if they are serious about offering Andrew Laird early as they previously have stated
What household can field the best team ??
June 1 we once again reported on the life and times of 6-9 Babo Nyamsi Sergechristian Visas from America unfortunately dominate his young life since he cannot plan his future without the extended Visa . He has no idea if and when the VISA will be granted -so he patiently plays hoops with his Spiece team on the weekend.. The most explosive big man in 2001, the Cameroon native needs "big time skill work "in order to play D1 collegiately....His roomates at the Anthony Alexander residence will meet the challenge of any organization in Indiana....Babo's fellow world travellers include 6-7 Eloka Ndoumbe Herve Geraldand 6-7 Socka Didier Phillipe.
Older and more advanced than Babo, the two Cameroon natives are primed to dominate America College Hoops once they receive their necessary Extended Visa....
6-9 Martin Brothers as we previously stated has wanted a new JUCO situation. Also a member of The Anthony Alexander's Basketball household, Martin seeks to play in a situation where he can demonstrate permeter skill....
5-10 Alexander point guard is Gerald that will play as a Soph. At Wabash Valley College....Player number six in the house is easily the best prospect as 6-2 Antwan Alexander/Arlington has shot from deep and gone inside like we have not seen since Darmetries Kilgore.....Need a Game ?? Call Mr. Alexander if you need a good old fashioned "Butt whooping ".
Tuesday-June 6 ,2000
6-2 Brandon Mcknight/South Bend Lasalle

The state's most highly recruited senior to be is currently telling IBN that he is disgusted with reports that state he is calling a press conference in two weeks....Mcknight tells IBN that he will unoficially again visit Purdue this Thursday but his parents need a great deal more time in this new arena before they allow him to commit to a school...Let's face it, last July Mcknight played in non exposure tourneys so all the new attention from dozens of schools will take some time to digest....A pre July decision is not likely but it could happen....The number of schools like Purdue (that want to get involved late) is mind boggling to say the least....Want to know what is even more ridiculous ?? How about an Indiana AAU Club that actually ranks their guards ahead of Brandon Mcknight ??? What a glaring -obvious act of nepotism - " so stated coach can keep stroking the ego of his guy". Shocking to say the least and not even predictable since any prognosticator with a pulse is aware that Mcknight and Chris Thomas are the elite in Indiana....
6-5 245 lb. Senior To Be Trai Essex/Ft. Wayne Harding certainly made a basketball name for himself as he led Harding to the Class 2A semistate championship game before narrowly losing to the two time state champs from Westview High School....
The hugely gifted power forward has been invited to the prestigious NIKE camp and was chosen by the coaches association to the Junior All-State team....IBN talked to Essex the past two weekends at Ft.Wayne and came away impressed with the young man's maturity...He states that ,"basketball is his true love in sports " but he also said he realizes his future at the highest level may be in Football...As an All-State tight end, Essex has offers from Iowa, IU,Toledo and Notre Dame....IU is saying that he can also play basketball but they also told Levron Williams and Randle El the same story..Ever see those two in an IU Basketball jersey ???What athlete in the BIG TEN plays both football and basketball ??? It does not happen- so why do athletes listen to the nonsense ??? Leading Harding to a 17-7 record, Essex averaged 13 ppg. 9 rpg. and 3 spg...His basketball interest has been from Indiana State, University Of Indianapolis and Evansville....Blessed with quick feet, solid basketball anticipation instincts, long arms and the all important explosive athleticism--Essex is a cannot miss Mo Valley power forward and with dedication could truly become a high major "Barkley" type....Time will tell what direction he travels but his NIKE performance should be the yardstick that measures his potential...Stay Tuned !!!
6-1 junior to be Seth Colclasure /Belmont averaged 23 ppg. while leading his team to a 12-8 record...A 3.9 student, Colclasure has a standing offer to play at Valparaiso while also having interest from Indiana and Purdue....Probably the class of 2002 purest shooter, Colclasure needs a disciplined motion offensive system for his talents to be utilized fully....JUST A SOPHOMORE !!

FT. WAYNE,INDIANA-38 teams of Indiana preps (in three divisions/9/10/11 grade) battled this weekend for the right to play in the Basketball Congress International tournament. Hosted by Bill Hensley's IBA organization, the National Qualifying tourney was held at The Beautiful New Spiece Fieldhouse....JUNIOR DIVISION:Spiece Central Stars 85 Spiece Northwest 60....Led by the 32 point explosion of 6-0 combo Jake Wiltrout/Plainfield and the 17 rebound 6 block shot performance of 6-7 Zach Reuter/Martinsville, Central Stars pulled away early to seal the championship....Their toughest contest was against the treyball bombing Tiffany's of Northeast Indiana...Reuter was the workhorse anchor all weekend for the champions as he is the prototypical mid to high major big forward ..Explosive and physically tough,Reuter spent much of his Junior season hobbled with a broken foot...With the absence of Jackson Atoyebi and Brandon Turner,Reuter simply "stepped up his game " to a new level....Wiltrout on the other hand , demonstrated why he led Plainfield to the state championship as a sophomore and scored 26 ppg. as a junior this past season...Strong at 170 lbs.,Jake has a nose to score and an on court intensity unmatched in Indiana Preps....All-Tourney: MVP-Zach Reuter,Jake Wiltrout,6-8 Cory Burns-Maconaquah,6-1 Tramayne "Moosie" Peterson,6-4 Nick Otis-Laporte,5-9 Chris Adkins-John Glenn-,6-4 Leon Petty-Cthedral,6-6 Paul Finnegan-Warsaw,6-4 Danny Smith-Gary Roosevelt,5-10 Doug Mckinney-Gary Westside,6-0 Tony Bollier-Leo and 6-5 Trai Essex-Ft. Wayne Harding....SOPHOMORE DIVISION: Warrick County 68 Spiece Central Stars 54....The Evansville Club is the pride of The sophomore club teams as they head into this weekend's state AAU tournament at Columbus,Indiana....Extremely disciplined offensively,Warrick will break their opponent down off the dribble and flawlessly make the assist to the open man....Once they build their lead to 8 or more, they play "cat and mouse" with their opponent until they catch them defensively off balance....All-Tourney:MVP-6-0 Bryan Mckain-Boonville,6-8 Matt Kiefer-Evansville Mater Dei,5-10 Patrick Mallory-Evansville Mater Dei,6-0 Dedrick Finn-Castle,6-3 Josh Gomes-Heritage Christian,6-5 Parnell Smith-Pike,5-8 Zach Decatur -Cathedral,5-10 Craig Shuck-Northwestern , 6-2 Deric Graham/South Bend Washington, and 6-1 Brandon Evans-Lawrence North....FRESHMEN DIVISION: Tiffany's 71 Michiana Basketball Academy 64. Hotly contested the entire game, both northeastern Indiana teams "left everything they they had on the court". Roger Yoder's club was better this contest but Fred Bradley's MBA entry will be a force this weekend in state AAU THIS Weekend at Carmel,Indiana...All-Tourney: MVP-6'5" Andrew Hershberger/Goshen..6-0 Ryan Bradley/Northwood,6-0 Josh Deloder/Penn,6-0 Jeremy Robinson/Elkhart Central,6-2 Kyle Anslinger/Evansville Reitz,5-9 Ryan Yoder/Westview,6-5 Adam Liddell/ Dekalb,6-4 Justin Cage/Pike,5-10 Ryan Gold/Northwest(Indpls.)

FT.WAYNE,INDIANA-The beautiful new 8 court Spiece Fieldhouse is the site for the Basketball Congress International Qualifying Tournament....38 teams comprise the three divisions:Freshmen/Sophomore and Juniors...The top four teams from each division will advance to the International Championships that are annually held at Colorado Springs,Colorado (United States Air Force Academy).Pool play begins Saturday,June 3 at 9 A.M.

Friday-June 2, 2000
MUNCIE,INDIANA-New Ball State Coach Tim Buckley is close to hiring the final two assistant coaches for The Cardinal program.
After keeping Scott Bunnell from leaving for Houston,Coach Buckley has been busy interviewing candidates for the final two coaching positions...Two involved candidates do not realistically want to leave their current situation but Buckley leads for two outstanding other prospects...Kareem Richardson played at Evansville for Jim Crews and he has assisted at University of Indianapolis / and currently Indiana State University..Kareem is an excellent choice..Also vying for the third coaching position is former Anderson Highland star and Purdue University Captain Linc Darner. As an assistant at D2 programs in Tennessee and now at Ashland College, Darner has expertly recruited the midwest to improve every program he has been involved in...The former Indiana All Star is a no brainer choice for all D1 assistant positions ; but, at some point he needs the "extra influence " that Bob Knight, Dean Smith,John Wooden and other major coaches give to their loyal alumni..Darner currently will not be able to accept a low paying D1 position as he is Roger Lyons top man at Ashland...A tremendous possible mid-western representative for Ball State University, time will tell if the University will help Darner relocate his family back home again in Indiana...Coach Buckley has retained all roster players as we previously predicted...He tells IBN that he is excited to be part of this administration that primarily is concerned with the graduation rate of the student -athletes..That is "all good "as they say in the hood but we hope the NCAA annual tourney appearance is not a secondary concern because too many absences from the tourney force all administrators to forget if anyone ever graduated from their University....

The superb 6-7 Small Forward from Huntington North High School will announce Friday for Indiana University...1:00 P.M. at The School's Athletic Center will be the site of his press conference..After visiting with several people , IBN has learned that The General's Cream and Crimson Army has won Kline's tour of duty the next five years....Now if Coach Knight is unable to comply with the zero tolerance policy before The signing period in September , Kline may desire another school. Coach Knight obviously is a huge reason why Kline is committing to Indiana..After having a not so perfect meeting with coach Knight, Sean's mother must be glad her son is at peace with his decision while also having normal parental concerns for his future collegiate environment....Tune in Friday for Kline's official announcement...We wish the leading 2001 Mr. Basketball Candidate "The Best" at Indiana University !!!

CHICAGO,ILLINOIS-North Park College finished 16-9 in NCAA D3 this season largely due to a roster dotted with 6 Indiana natives..6-10 Brandon Donaldson/Gary Wirt was previously at NCAA D1 Duquesne.6-3 Eric Shiplov/Lake Station transferred from Wisconsin-Whitewater. 6-0 Reed Larson/Speedway,5-10 Terry Pate/South Bend Clay,6-6 Cordell Hood/Boone Grove, and 6-1 Rick Alspach/Bishop Noll all chose the elite private school directly from High School....North Park recruiter Butch Shiplov is the former Lake Station Head Coach....Covering Nortwest Indiana better than the steel mill pollution, Butch has committments from 5-10 Chris Edquist/ Laporte and 6-2 Corey Clemmons/Knox....6-1 Josh Cunningham/Valparaiso is considering North Park in addition to Wisconsin Northland....North Park Head Coach Rees Johnson is the former NCAA D1 Mid Continent Head Coach at next door neighbor Northeastern University....Once Northeastern University dropped all athletic programs, Rees simply walked three blocks down Chicago's busy sidewalks and signed on as North Park College's Head Coach....With the expertise of Johnson and the recruiting work ethic of Butch Shiplov,we expect 5 time NCAA D3 National Champion North Park to once again contend for the National Title

Gary Wirt High School has two outstanding graduating senior prospects . 5-11 lefty deep shooter Myron Jenkins needs JC and also will benefit any program with his quicks "backing up " his pure jumper..6-2 Marcus Gholson is a hugely explosive athlete that will play inside-out in most programs. He also needs JC so to jump start his career.Recruiters should call coach Omar Vasquez at school.IBN subscribers should call our office if interested....

6-9 Jr. Babo Nyamsi Serge Christian Update....February 1 IBN first reported on the tragic arrival of the young Cameroon,Africa native..Since then the young man has adapted well to Arlington High School and life on the Eastside of Indianapolis..His basketball game is rawer than we thought but he is improving every weekend in Sam Gates Gym Rats program...Babo has quick feet and explosive power at 6-9 that cannot be taught but his skills are "light years behind " his athleticism..Yet, his biggest challenge in America is to receive an extended VISA for his future American residency...The federal Government grants visas on a per requesting basis per Country and Cameroon is not an American favorite.Babo's VISA has not yet been extended....Stay Tuned as we hopefully have good news in reference to Babo's future in America !!!His local host Anthony Alexander of Indianapolis has been Babo's gracious host since day one ....We will have more later but this Indianapolis businessman is gracious enough to now house six athletes that have at the most, distant cousin relations....Talk about a grocery BILL !!!
