The Circus Surrounding Sean May's Recruiting !
We have learned that Sean May basically is interested in every High Major Program Other than Purdue or Indiana..
He openly talks of interest in Kentucky, Duke and Georgetown..
The no brainer first choice has always been Indiana since his father was a legend there and Sean is a Bloomington resident..
The truth now is that May does not want Indiana ..
We believe he wants to play College Basketball with older brother Scott , Jr. before he jumps to the NBA after his Freshman or Sophomore season..
Indiana has also learned of Sean's desire because they now have joined Louisville , Ohio State and Iowa in offering brother Scott, Jr . a full athletic scholarship -if Sean will also follow his older brother to their College Program..
This is Big News because Scott had previously ONLY BEEN OFFERED PREFERRED WALK ON STATUS from Mike Davis's Hoosiers..
Scott May , Jr. would receive the scholarship that Andre Owens vacated if this deal is accepted by Sean and his family...
Stay Tuned !!

2002's 6-5 Carson Oren Of Mishawaka Marian
The SF/PF will play in July with The Hi Profile Tiffanys Program..
His game and Hi academics have merited phone calls the past week thus far from College Of Charleston, Columbia , Lafayette , and Dartmouth..
Like many 6-5 "tweener" type Indiana players each year, Oren's College Career future will depend on his ability to play aggressive and make things happen at both ends of the court.
Let's face it , 6-3 Shane Power willed his way to a Hi Major Scholarship offer to Iowa State.Power was and is basically a SF/PF at 6-3..
Oren does not have the physical power or nose to score that Power had, but he is bigger and now has a better shooting touch..
If Oren will approach the game in Power machisimo fashion, he will attract many more College Suitors in July..
Stay Tuned !

2002's 6-5 SF/SG Dan Taylor Of Tipton
Dan was called so far by Central Michigan and New Hampshire..
Indiana State , Evansville , Morehead State , Drake , Western Michigan and Youngstown State have all indicated that they will be following his game in July..

2002's 6-0 Matt Comparato Of Brebeuf High School
The clever, fiery playmaker has worked diligently to bulk his frame up 20 pounds to a man like 178..
Steady , flawless and pure lefty shooting has been Comparato's calling card the past few years. His game has merited calls the past week from Colgate , Columbia , Appalachain State , UNC-Greensboro , Central Michigan , Western Michigan , Yougstown State , Wofford , Elon and Liberty ..
His Indy Metro team plays this July at the Hoosier Shootout , Kentucky Hoopfest and Adidas Big Time..
The Metros have three very good prospects to follow in Matt Comparato , 6-4 Shooter (2003) Dan Cage (Chatard) and 6-3 Lefty Shooter (2002) Chris Gray of Indpls. Manual..
Their best player to date has been North Carolina import 7-0 Adam Simons..
When Simons runs with The Metros , they beat teams like Bobby Kortsen's Ohio teams..
When he is absent , they do not advance out of Pool Play in the Indiana State AAU tourney..
Simons is the son of Elon College Head Coach Mark Simons..
If Junior continues to progress at this rate , dad may have to schedule a "Homer Drew" type home visit..
Adam has serious interest from Wake Forest and North Carolina State..
Valpo Coach Homer Drew was in a similar situation years ago when son Bryce also had offers from Clemson, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Indiana..
Coach Simons must be considered the leader for his long and developing son Adam Simons..
Time Will Tell..

2002'S 6-7 Donnell Franklin Of Gary Roosevelt
The hugely talented Franklin ,like Rodney Carney, has huge physical gifts for the next level.
He RUNS LIKE A GAZELLE, pogo stick hops as he boards and blocks shots, and his passing-driving skills are very good .
He is yet to develop a scorers mentality . Being on a deep team each year at Roosevelt, Franklin never has been asked to be a primary scorer..
He will need to deliver his senior season with the loss of Ken Lampley to Youngstown State..
The past week , Franklin has received calls from Weber State , Boston College , Arkansas and UNC-Wilmington..
He has a 2.5 Core GPA and plans to take the SAT the next time it is offered..

2002 RECRUITING Plus More News !!

Indianapolis Northwest's 6-5 Rodney Carney
He High Jumps 6-10 In Track and he dunks from the free throw line in Hoops..
Carney slash scores as a natural and also is stretching his game to a SG from his natural SF position..
His Coach Bob Wilkerson is The Indiana Legend that has handcuffed all of Rodney's exposure.
Thus far , only Bowling Green and Evansville have had the sense to contact Rodney Carney....
In a chapter from Ripley's Believe It Or Not , Rodney has no plans to play in July College Exposure !!

6-3 Shooter Jared Reeves of Brownsburg
The 20 plus scorer for Brownsburg the past two seasons has been only called the past week by South Florida ..
It is no coincidence that South Florida is expected to contend next season for The Conference USA Championship..
Son of a minister , Reeves is quick footed and Mid Major Capable..
We are shocked that he has no interest from Indianapolis Colleges IUPUI or Butler..
Recruiters ask about how any of these Indiana Guards defend and we must respond that we have seen few to any of them make a stop...
Reeves has the quicks to also guard in College when he is not asked exclusively to light the score board..
We look forward to the day we talk smack about all the Colleges that needed a Shooting Guard but missed on Jared Reeves..
Stay Tuned !!

6-4 Marques Bennett Of Brebeuf
The talented and smooth playmaker has a chance to blow up to High Major Proportions if he so chooses..
He has a full July to do so !
Last Thursday , he received calls from Lamar , Ball State and Evansville ..

Muncie South's State 3A Champion Ryan Baumgartner
The 6-0 Combo chose to leave Bloomington Red's High Exposure Program for the same reason all of their players give- the system is not fun..
Regardless , when you are a Senior To Be , you need College Exposure and no Amateur Club provides more Exposure to College Recruiters than Bob Pryor's NIKE Team from Bloomington..
Since Ryan quit Pryor, he reports that he has only played in their open Gyms and that he will attend Five Star in July..
The past week , Ryan was called by Houston and South West Missouri State ..

Indpls. Manual's 6-3 Shooter Chris Gray
After many rumors , we have learned that Gray is returning to Manual for his Senior season. Hopefully , he will finally have some 'mates that can help him win at least half of their games !!
The strong lefty sniper will be evaluated in July by Eastern Illinois , Southern Ilinois , IPFW , Dartmouth , Bradley , Cleveland State , and Evansville..
Gray's reputation for cruise control will need to be addressed in July.
We believe Gray will choose to play every possession and really "get after it " in July College Exposure..
Stay Tuned !!

McCutcheon's 5-10 Avery Sheets
The Combo Guard is a definite D1 Mid Major Prospect as he will continue proving his worth this July with The Indy Warriors..
His game and Hi Academics drew interest the past week from Butler , Southern Ilinois , Miami Of Ohio , IUPUI , William and Mary in addition to a call from Harvard..

Purdue's Gold and Black Illustrated Is Reporting That Matt Kiefer Has Verbally Committed To Purdue
The report is probably true since those folks are fairly accurate..
We have not spoken to Kiefer today but we will try and reach him for a confirmation.
If he has committed to Purdue then he will join his father and brother as former and current Purdue students.
He is Small Forward talented but if this verbal to Purdue is true, Kiefer is not only prepared to play Power Forward in The Big Ten but he will also spend most time as a Boiler Center..
Why ?
Who else 6-9 or taller has shown even remote interest in Purdue from America's Class Of 2002..
No One !
If Matt Kiefer has committed to Purdue, then we hope he will immediately begin a Serious Power Strength Program .. He will need the 50 plus pounds of muscle just to withstand the pounding that will come his way as a Big Ten Center..
Stay Tuned !!

South Central's 5-9 150 Pound Craig Schoen
Look for Elizabeth , Indiana on a map and you see that it is even South of Louisville, Kentucky..
The lefty Schoen is the best passing playmaker in the 2002 Class . He was sharp in June play and we expect his game to be on in July with Ohio Valley.
Only Weber State and Mississippi State have called thus far..
We look forward to next school season as we expect South Central to finally beat New Washington in Sectional Play..
Do not hold your breath though as New Washington Mayor / Coach Jim Matthews is still coaching the perennial Sectional Champs..

1A Paoli High School's 6-3 Evan Seacat
The small school ,jump shooting prolific scorer has received College Calls from Akron and Evansville..
The entire College World will be able to inspect his game @ The Nike Camp this July in Indianapolis.
We have learned that NIKE consultant Tates Locke is the reason why Seacat was invited to the prestigious camp..
Locke got Seacat in NIKE without consulting anyone that clearly covers Indiana Prospects.
We wish Seacat the best at NIKE and we look forward to watching him play..

2A Austin High School's 6-3 Anthony Winchester
The shooting guard started the spring with Bloomington Red but quit stating the system was no fun..
He now will pop jumpers in July for Ohio Valley..
Anthony has been called the past week by Indiana State , Iowa , David Lipscomb , Kent State , Weber State and Evansville..

South Bend Washington's 6-2 Derrick Graham
As we predicted , the very versatile scorer/defender has been slow to adapt to The Motion Offense system of Bloomington Red ..
Before the summer , Graham had never received a screen in his life as his High School team creates offense with their relentless end line to end line defense. Graham hits several treys at Washington but never catching the ball off a screen..
Needless to say , school ball is great fun for Graham. Fun has been the issue with all the players that quit Bloomington this season and with all the players that stayed.
Unanimously, all say that they liked each other on the team but the on court system was not fun or enjoyable..
We know kids love to trap on defense and run the court when they think they have chances to pull off the dribble or dunk..
Fun is part of the game but in Bob Pryor's defense , how much fun could he be having when these highly rated players do not hit shots or contest anyone on Defense??
Not much fun from Bob's point of view.
Back to Derrick Graham.
Derrick has received phone calls thus far from Michigan State , Houston , Bowling Green , Drake and Evansville..
Graham will play @ Nike and then finish the summer with Bloomington Red ..

John Morningstar's Past Week Of Recruiting

The 6-10 high academic and highly skilled offensive Prospect from Concord High School has been very busy fielding college coaches phone calls and working a part time job.
He has no leader at this time but he did visit Miami of Ohio recently with plans to visit again.
His College Phone Calls the past week have come from Michigan , Purdue , Air Force , Miami Ohio, Bowling Green , Ball State , Wright State , Dayton , Valparaiso , Indiana State , Columbia , Vanderbilt , Iowa State , University Of Tennessee , Akron , Evansville , Southern Illinois , College Of Charleston , Central Michigan , Old Dominion and many others that did not leave messages..
Next week before the July college exposure circuit , John will unnofficially visit Vanderbilt University..
Morningstar's Indy Warriors will play in The Hoosier Shootout , Kentucky Hoopfest and Las Vegas Big Time..
When he returns in August , he plans to visit Bowling Green and Evansville ..
We believe that, the Prototypical Motion Offense Power Forward, Morningstar has received offers from Miami, Bowling Green , Indiana State , Wright State and Evansville..
With his ability to set screens and release to treyball land for jumpers,Morningstar will be a very Hot Prospect For Mid Western Mid Majors.
Anytime a 6-10 player can take a large defender away from the basket , his team's offensive scheme is able to open up so many other options for team mates..
We expect an early Fall Signing for Morningstar unless Concord has received move ins that will allow John to not be triple teammed on each possession..
Like Quennell Young Of Elkhart Memorial , we do not expect Morningstar at Concord to receive the necessary help in order to have a big statistical Senior Season..

Bobby Smith Dismissed From Southeast Missouri State After Guilty Plea To Criminal Charges
The former Chicago Carver/East Chicago/Gary Roosevelt/East Coast Prep Star may have finally ran out of chances with College Basketball..
After a successful two year stint at Villanova , Smith transferred to Southeast Missouri State and sat out his Junior year.
Just when he appeared primed for his final two year run of College Basketball, he has now lost that scholarship due to Criminal activity involving theft.
The talented 6-2 Playmaker may or may not have shot his last College Basketball.
Once we find out more, we will assess whether or not he may possibly be able to finish out in NAIA..
Some obviously take longer than others to mature emotionally.
Never would we make excuses for Bobby Smith or any criminal, but he has never had the privelege of being raised by parents or grandparents.
Smith has bounced around from older brothers and sisters for several years.
We hope he can bounce back, straighten up and use the basketball for a College Degree somewhere.

Cameron Stephens Update
The former Indiana All Star from Ft. Wayne Southside averaged 9 ppg and 9apg as a Junior last season at UNC-Charlotte..
After High School , Stephens signed with Purdue but did not receive the academic support that he needed. He transferred to Vincennes and played one season for Dan Sparks before signing with Charlotte.
Currently. Cameron is rehabilitating his right shoulder after surgery to correct a recurring dislocation problem..
At 6-7 235 pounds of rugged muscle, Stephens is set to be full strength by the end of August..
After watching last nites NBA draft and seeing his former 'mate Rodney White get drafted so high , Stephens is hyped to have a Big Final Season.
Projected as a SF/BF , Stephens states that Conference USA will be hailing him as the second coming of Dennis Rodman after they all get a front row view of his game next season.
Stay Tuned for more Updates from this Successful Indiana Native..

INDIANA COLLEGE PLAYERS SELECTED FOR NBA

All college underclassmen Troy Murphy -Notre Dame,Kirk Haston-Indiana and Zach Randolph - Michigan State were taken in the league's first round..
Murphy #14 Golden State , Haston # 16 Charlotte , and Randolph # 19 Portland were all good selections for Their Pro Teams..
Our Analysis ?
Golden State and Charlotte selected two players that will greatly extend zone defenses but not be able to guard people inside or rebound with any consistency..
Portland stole Zach at #19 and he will prove the NBA scouts missed on him earlier when they passed on Zach...
Zach should have went to the league last season and watch Darius Miles be selected behind him last season..
Zach is much better than any forwards selected so he will prove next contract time how wrong the scouts are..
Zach loves the game and he will prove all second guessers wrong !!
Portland, without a coach, and with trouble children playing, will be turned on their ear after Zach takes over the team at their NBA Camp..
Mark it Down Now That Zach Randolph will Be the NBA Rookie Of The Year !!

6-3 Tyler Clevenger Of Winchester
We saw reports of Colleges that called Tyler since last Thursday.
We talked to our 17-under AAU MVP on Thursday and he did mention an offer from Miami Ohio..
He did state that on Thursday he was called by, Bowling Green State University , Miami Of Ohio , Drake University , Northwestern ,Davidson , and Yale ..
Since Thursday , he also has been called by Central Florida , Purdue , UNC- Wilmington , Akron , Valparaiso , Evansville , Xavier and South Alabama ..
The fact that those schools cared enough to call in week One tells us that they are very seriously recruiting Tyler Clevenger..
All other schools must be considered "Johnny Come Lately's"

Floyd Central's 6-9 225 Pound Senior To Be Charlie Jenney
The big fella has came from not catching the ball as a Sophomore to being a periodic force as a Junior..
Jenney loves the game and continues to work at it under the tutelage of Floyd Central Coach Larry Schellenberg..
In April , we saw him dunk in the paint against Bloomington Red and others at the Louisville tourney..
He is active physically with long arms and a wide shoulders.. Those shoulders and frame will easily carry 260 pounds at the next level..
He has a chance to be very good as a Sophomore in College for a Mid Major Program..
Last Thursday , he received first legal day calls from Southern Illinois , Evansville , Weber State , IUPUI, and IPFW..
Stay Tuned ! We get excited by Prospects with the Potential of a Charlie Jenney.
Time Will Tell If Jenney Actualizes His Potential..

6-7 225 Pound Senior Javon Joiner Of Gary Lew Wallace
The personable and articulate Joiner has recently gone through some tough times with the loss of his father just two days before father's day..
His father lost an ongoing battle with diabetes..
That loss ,to say the least, has not helped to make Javon's College Decision any easier..
Swamped with dozens of Junior College Offers , Joiner has settled on Sheridan College in Wyoming..
He plans to actually red shirt the first season so to work on his academics and his body..
Believe it or not, his wide body and strong hands have never been exposed to a weight training program..
Mid - Hi Major Programs should follow him closely because he will "blow up" as a prospect after he learns what strength conditioning will do for him.
After sitting one year at Sheridan and playing two, Joiner will then be eligible for two years of NCAA D1 Basketball..
We will keep you updated on Joiner's progress..
His teammate 6-4 Shooter Brandon Richardson did not qualify academically for Weber State so he will either sit out his Freshman season there without a scholarship or he will play Junior College Basketball..He reportedly is open to all Junior Colleges...
One of the most intriguing Prospects in Indiana Preps this season was Lew Wallace Senior 6-8 Chris Wesby.
The long shot blocking spider man will need a fifth year of High School in order to graduate..
Wesby has those unteachable physical gifts that will really blossom under a good prep school or Junior College Coach..
All Non Teaching Just Reloading JUCO/Prep School Programs need not apply.
Wesby is a raw talent skill wise that has been blessed with elite atleticism of Hi Major Proportions..

More 2002 Prospect News !

Elkhart Memorial's 6-2 Quennel Young
The 165 Pound Combo Scorer was the best shooting performer @ Brownsburg aau State Championships..
Young proved that he is a scoring threat off the dribble against anyone to 23'.
He may need academic work but we believe he is desirous of signing early..
Last Thursday , only Northern Kentucky and Valparaiso called the "Q" Young..
Stay Tuned !!

Gary Wirt High School Is Annually Very Disciplined Under Coach Omar Vasquez
The Troopers @ Wirt will be displaying next season, two D1 Talents that also should academically qualify..
Academically qualifying for College Basketball in Gary , Indiana is News in Itself !!
Most College Basketball Coaches know Gary as a Junior College Hotbed for Recruits..
The best prepared prospect in Gary next season is 6-1 mega quick combo guard Marcus Ford..
Ford needs to raise his 2.3 CORE GPA and find a matching SAT score; but, we believe he will find the focus to do so.
Ford has only Dedrick Finn and a few others as peers at his Combo position.
Ford can score but his real talent is setting up teammates..
Marcus has a bit too much flash sometimes and makes passses that 'mates cannot catch. He needs to slow his dribble attack down sometimes for pullups in the lane ;but, he also plays in systems that do not encourage him to use his blazing penetration past defenders..
Coach Vazquez allows Marcus some freedom but his SYF Coach constantly calls for a play or ball reversal..
If he is allowed to show his game in July, Marcus has a chance for a High Major Offer..
If not, Mid Majors will clamor for the opportunity to offer Marcus..
First Day Legal College Coach Calling came from : Kansas State , Boston College , Boston University , Weber State , Ball State , San Jose State , Valparaiso , Pacific and IUPUI..
Ford is visiting Kansas State unnoficially this week..
Ford's talented Small Forward teammate is 6-5 205 Brandon Lee ..
Brandon was a Big Ten Football Prospect but he has given up the pigskin in order to play College Basketball ..
Lee is a two footed drop step dunking low post wide body but his true strength is face up shooting..
Lee's big body can shoot with any Indiana prep from 15' to 25'.
He is intriguing in that his large frame can add 20 pounds of muscle and enable him to be a swing SF Power..
Lee will be able to do many things for a team inside and out.
Brandon also has a legit 3.7 Core GPA . He still needs to take SAT but his core will allow for a low scale..
His College phone calls have come from Weber State , Boston College , New Hampshire , and Niagara..

More 2002 Big Men Recruiting News
Sunday evening Delco Rowley now tells IBN that Boston College and Michigan State have joined his wide open list of schools that includes Xavier , Purdue , Ohio State , Iowa and Iowa State..
Lawrence North's 6-7 Angelo Smith was called last Thursday by Xavier , Butler , Purdue , Michigan State , Bowling Green , Mississippi State , Yale and Indiana State ..
Smith sports a 3.5 GPA and 1110 SAT..
6-7 Mike Otto of Maconaquah at 250 pounds of muscle has the strongest hands in the class and the best low post baby hook. The shot is unstoppable in the paint..
His 11/12 GPA and 1160 SAT has interest for basketball only from Columbia at this time..
He wants College Basketball but Purdue coach Joe Tiller may convince him to play College Football this week. Notre Dame and Northwestern also covet his football Offensive Lineman skill..
Floyd Central coach Larry Schellenberg tabs 6-7 215 Pound Kyle Thrasher as the school's best player since Pat Graham.... Thrasher plays harder than Graham did but he does not score anywhere CLOSE to Pat Graham..
Thursday , Kyle received calls from Niagara , IUPUI , IPFW , Eastern Kentucky , David Lipscomb , Akron , New Hampshire and South West Baptist..

Indiana Legend Steve Alford Receives Huge Committment For Iowa !!

The Big Ten Conference Tourney Champion Coach has just received the third Big Time Recruit from The 2002 Class...
The first committs were Iowa natives and Top 100 National talents 6-3 Combo Jeff Horner and 6-7 PF Greg Brunner..
We have now learned that California stud 6-6 220 pound SF Josh Rhodes has also committed to Steve Alford's Iowa Program..
Rhodes is from Santa Cruz , California and many evaluators liken his game to that of The NBA's Corey Maggette..
Iowa was first in on Rhodes and they beat Stanford , UCLA , Duke, North Carolina and many other late comers for the hugely talented Josh Rhodes..
The Iowa Hawkeyes have now obtained the Top 2002 Class In The Big Ten and they still are not done..
They are in search of one more Big Body and we believe Indiana Preps are their prime targets..
Expect Alford to now focus his recruiting efforts on 6-8 Sean May , 6-9 Matt Kiefer, 6-8 Delco Rowley and 6-9 Kevin Cates..
Sean May is everyone's first target but his special recruiting needs and length of College tenure may not be worth Iowa's time..
Let's face it , May is a one or two year player at the most in College Basketball as he trains for The NBA Millionaire Club..
Many programs will deal with that dynamic but Iowa will be so good they may not need to..
May , Kiefer , Rowley or Cates to Iowa ??

Ben Davis's Jay Jones To Christian Brothers University
The talented 6-0 Lefty Combo Guard from Indianapolis's westside has apparently accepted a scholarship from the Memphis, Tennesse University..
Jones quarterbacked the Ben Davis show the past two seasons while also leading the Municipal Gardens National Travelling Team..
To say the least, Christian Brothers stole Jones from Indiana !!

Ron Heflin , Jr. Resurfaces @ Southern Illinois-Edwardsville
The 1998 Gary Roosevelt Graduate left High School as a 6-4 165 pound small forward for Albany College in Georgia..
Still wanting to play College Basketball, Heflin left after one year to help look after his ailing father Ron Heflin, Sr.
Indiana Basketball fans remember Sr. as the Hall Of Fame Roosevelt Coach who led the Panthers to both a state championship and state runnerup finish..
The Coach was suffering from cancer of the throat so Jr. dropped out of school to look after his father.. After dad was able to fully recover, Jr. resumed his College Basketball playing career at Black Hawk Jr. College in North Chicago..
Now a 6-7 220 pound Power Forward/Wing Shooter, Ron Jr. graduated from Black Hawk and received the athletic scholarship from NCAA D2 SIU-Edwardsville..

Andrean High School Senior Athletes 6-0 Rashad Pace and 6-2 Elliot Boarden
Both the slashing wing players hope to continue their Basketball Careers in College..
Pace will walk on @ IUPUI his Freshman season with the intent to receive a scholarship his Sophomore campaig..
Pace is a mega powerful athlete that we expect to take the Mid Con Conference By Storm..
Lake County Indiana Fans will annually be able to view Pace's Hi Flying Game as IUPUI visits Valparaiso the next four seasons...
Boarden will attend Ball State University for academics only at this point but he also plans to try his luck walking on the Cardinals squad..
With the departure of several Cardinals lately, Boarden may receive an opportunity sooner than later..

Levi Carmichael Signs Full Athletic Scholarship To Austin Peay University

The 5-11 playmaking prolific scorer from tiny Eastern Green High School signed the National Letter of Intent this past Saturday.. Carmichael received the scholarship offer after Austin Peay's Top Player Trenton Hassell signed with an agent for The NBA Draft..
The Governors Of Austin Peay compete in The Ohio Valley Of NCAA D1..
Carmichael led Eastern to a sectional championship this season while being the most underrated player in Hoosierland..

2002 Big Men Recruiting News !
No one is bigger or better than Sean May of Bloomington North.
We believe May now has two clear cut favorites in Ohio State and Louisville.
This development will be even more interesting as the July evaluation period plays out.
Indiana, North Carolina, Michigan State , Iowa , Duke , Notre Dame and Iowa State also are still being considered..
We believe 6-9 Matt Kiefer of Evansville Mater Dei is still considering Notre Dame , Iowa ,Purdue , Michigan , Kansas and Evansville.
Many Boiler fans believe he is a lock for Purdue.
If that was the case, we believe Matt would have already committed to Keady's crew.
He has only been on Purdue's Campus a thousand times !!
6-11 Chris Hunter of Gary Westside is not close to paring his list of schools down from Missouri, Michigan , Indiana , Purdue , North Carolina , Michigan State , Illinois , Georgia Tech ,Louisville and Penn State..
Hunter is unofficially visiting Michigan this coming week..His recruiting has been an extremely frustrating one for all the mentioned schools. The Hoops they must jump through, as they deal with Gary Westside Head Coach John Boyd , are ridiculous and truly unbelieveable.
Many will continue jumping thru the Hoops because Hunter is a Huge Potential talent..
Unfortunatley for Hunter , many schools will drop out of his recruiting because they are tired of dealing with Coach Boyd.
The sad news is the situations at many of those schools may be good ones for Chris because he has specific needs as a player.
Unable to maintain weight on his long frame, Hunter is at least three years away to gain High Major Strength..He really needs a High Major Program that can allow him time to grow and mature while he is able to play Small Forward... He can help a team quickly as a small forward but not if he is asked to play Big Forward/Center..
Programs needing a Big Forward or potential Big Forward, should recruit Hunter only if their current depth at that position is sufficient the next three years.
Arlington's 6-8 Delco Rowley is still favoring Ohio State , Iowa , Purdue and Iowa State but we believe he will also investigate Xavier..
Being wide open to all schools, who knows where Delco will land after the July Evaluation Period ..We have no reservations about Rowley's High Major abilities, but , we must question his erratic inconsistent effort and judgment..
To wear a headband around his neck during play ,certainly was an interesting fashion statement..
Sweating profusely during games, to see Delco wiping sweat out of his eyes ,with the headband around his neck, just makes observers shake their heads in disbelief..
Sometimes in player development, the mind is slower than the body to develop.
Bring the body and hopefully the mind will follow !!
We believe Delco will continue developing into a Total Big Time Prospect !
More Soon !!

Indiana's Fastest Rising High Major has been Marion, Indiana's 6-9 Kevin Cates ..
Thursday , Kevin was called by Indiana State , Ball State, Xavier , Wright State , Purdue, Dayton , Iowa, Southern Illinois , Valparaiso, Wake Forest , South West Missouri State, Iowa State , Bowling Green , IUPUI , Michigan , SMU and Marist College..
This Sunday and Monday , Cates is unofficially visiting Iowa ..
Tuesday , Cates is also unofficially visiting with Tyler Best both Xavier and Cincinnati... Both schools from Cincinnati have made both Cates and Best recruiting priorities...
We believe that Cates will also unofficially visit both Michigan and Ohio State before he comes close to a decision..

NCAA D1 Schools Can Legally Phone Contact Players On June 21

We have placed calls to most of the top prospects and those reports will be published as soon as we receive them..
We did talk to 6-9 Tyler Best and 6-8 Justin Johnson's mother..
Tyler was home all day with his fractured hand so he fielded all phone calls. He says he will not miss NIKE and he will play with his broken bone taped up.
Today , he received calls from Purdue , Cincinnati,Florida , St. Louis ,Clemson, Miami Florida, Indiana State , Ball State , Wright State , Dayton , Weber State , Buffalo , Georgia Tech , George Washington , Appalachain State , Richmond and Eastern Illinois ..
Justin Johnson's mother reports that she heard from Illinois , Michigan State , Boston College , Marquette , Western Kentucky , Butler , Valparaiso , St. Louis and Indiana State ..
She further reports that this list is incomplete because Justin personally talked to many other schools today...
Just talked to Justin Johnson now after 10 PM and he says that he also received phone calls today from Kentucky , Xavier and Tennessee..
Johnson at 6-8 is a Potential College Small Forward Prospect and only those programs needing him at that position should continue recruiting him. Sure, Justin can play Big Forward but his real talent will be facing the basket and scoring/defending from the wing ...

Bloomington South's 6-8 245 Pound Marcus Barham is the first to admit that he has made a few poor choices in his life..
He also is now a very Big Body with good perimeter shooting skills.
After watching Indiana get blasted by Kentucky, the bench warming Bloomington South Barham could have played just as weak as the Indiana Post players selected for the game..
Barham needs a JUCO and he graduated with a diploma from Bloomington South..
He believes something from Cincinnati Tech or Vincennes may come his way but he is interested in all situations..
Barham can be reached by calling 812-825-5103..

Thursday June 21 , 2001

East Chicago Native 5-11 Ajabe Gillis has been at an East Coast Prep School the past two years..
Gillis is now saying that he has achieved the necessary SAT score while also signing with NCAA D1 Central Michigan..

St. Francis College Reels In Marion Natives
We have learned that 6-6 Roger Randolph and Andre Betts will meet once again on the court. This time they will play at St.Francis but previously they have been playing together as natives of Marion...
Randolph had been at a Prep school and originally was announced for Wabash Valley Junior College.. He now is headed for Ft. Wayne, Indiana's NAIA Power St. Francis..
Betts is a 5-8 mega athlete and player that signed originally with NCAA D1 University Of Tennesse @ Martin .. He was a very good NCAA D1 Player but a failure as a student athlete..
Hopefully , he like many College freshman have matured as men and have also gained a mature focus towards academics...

Indiana Basketball News Associate Jim Kasberg is reporting that former Lawrence Central star 6-3 Will Jones has once again resurfaced by signing with NAIA Power Oklahoma City University ..
The rugged Jones has been playing Junior College Basketball at Seminole Florida JC..
His NCAA Clock has run out so he will play his eligibility in NAIA..
Indiana NAIA's sure missed on Jones..
Kasberg also states that Nick and Chet Washington have apparently resurfaced at Danville Junior College ..
The brother point guards from Ben Davis are both very talented on the court.
Definite 5-9 D2 NCAA Prospects , Nick and Chet are definite prospects to watch if their focus is Basketball and Academics...
Hopefully, they both have shaken their off court personal baggage in order to receive a College Education !!
Kasberg tells IBN that his son Terren Wilson is now considering Pittsburgh and New Orleans in addition to Hampton and San Jose State University .. He may also matriculate to Cincinnati Tech JC if his on court playmaking does not attract the NCAA D1 that he will be comfortable with at this late date..

Whiting Indiana's Calumet College Signs Three
The tiny NAIA D2 Program has been advertising in local newspapers for people interested in trying out for their Softball and Basketball teams..
Ads have paid off because they recently have received committments from Gary Lew Wallace's 6-4 Andre Hendrix (2000) and local 2001 Grads 6-0 Angel Rosado / River Forest and Hebron's 6-0 Andy Marks..If Hendrix has finally turned his personal life in the right direction, he will be an incredible addition to Calumet..
Marks is an absolute steal for Calumet College and an incredible miss by NCAA D2's !!
We once thought the Great Lakes Valley did not miss on players in Indiana but now we must player.
The dunking ,6-0 Pure Shooting, run thru walls Marks is one of the few Indiana players that we would pay to watch and not request press credentials for..

Mike Thomas's Evansville Basketball Club Participates In The Indiana/Kentucky All Star Basketball Weekend

Thomas's backcourt oriented Junior To Be Team was invited to play the Kentucky Region 2 and Region 4 Senior Stars ..
The task was a huge one as Evansville quickly played the entire evening from a 12 point deficit.
The fourth quarter was all Evansville's behind the scoring of Kyle Anslinger , Joe Schuler and Andy Kissell..
The trio fought to tie the game at 81.
With 8 seconds to go in the game and the game tied at 81,Kentucky took the ball the length of the floor and missed the first shot but a huge hand in the lane tossed it in for the Kentucky win..
In the wake of The Indiana All Star team's embarrassing loss in the Indiana vs. Kentucky All Star Classic, we are glad that young teams like The Evansville Basketball Club can play against Kentucky teams and win the majority of contests..

Senior To Be 2001 Indiana AAU State Championship

MVP- Tyler Clevenger /Indy Warriors
The 6-3 guard was great at both ends of the court and his questionable shooting was good in final four play vs. Spiece Pistols . He hit four treys in that game and extended the defense of Spiece.
He must continue improving his jumper but our biggest criticism now is the fact that he questions every referee call that does not go his team's way..
A cannot miss Mid Major, Clevenger has a chance at High Major Point Guard if he has a good summer..
All Tourney Team
6-1 Quennel Young / Tiffanys
His 30 points vs. Warrick County demonstrated his tremendous off the dribble skill with defense in his face.
6-7 Angelo Smith /Indy Warriors
His work ethic and ability will propel him to Hi Major in next year..
6-8 Delco Rowley /Indy Warriors
Had no peers when he wanted to play this weekend.Poor attention span. Regardless, his game and body has offers from Purdue, Ohio State, Iowa and Iowa State..
He remains wide open..
6-4 Marques Bennett / Indy Warriors
Thief on the court that runs a team when he is in the mood.
6-7 240 Sam Pharr / Rockville
He looked healthier and quicker than in the past. At the least , he is a Mid Major Power Forward ..
6-3 Sonny Troutman / Team Indiana
If he finds a jumper, he will end up Hi Major. If not, he will be a defensive role player in Low D1..
6-1 Matt Pait / Team Indiana
Combo has the skill and athleticism for Hi Major.
6-3 Josh Gomes / Spiece Pistols
No Senior to be is better at both ends of the court..
6-11 Chris Hunter /Bloomington Red
NBA Potential as a small forward and he actually showed some of that potential. His body and nature as a person needs serious work and confidence . Why he does not take pride that the court is his , is beyond belief !! He should turn all players away around the rim...
5-6 Rodney Underwood / Hoopstars
The kid gets cut from North Central but he is the best and quickest small point guard in this tourney. Juco's need to inquire.
6-7 Mike Otto / Spiece North
The 250 pounder could not be stopped when he caught the ball from the blocks. He is big and strong...
6-3 Jared Reeves / Billy Shepherd
He shot the ball well both weekends..
6-0 Scott Strahm / Spiece South
He should have joined a team that is worthy of his solid D1 Possible game..
6-5 Robert Barker / Indiana "Select"
The Greensburg lefty shooter will really blow up once he joins an elite team..
6-3 Albert Redd /Indiana Aces
We do not rank Football Prospects very high if at all but Albert was the only Ace with heart as they lost to the North Central Intramural team called Hoopstars..
6-9 Matt Kiefer / Warrick County
His team's poor depth has caught up with the Wildcats.
6-3 Andre Jones / Ohio Valley
Shoots treys as well as anyone and at 200 pounds , he scores like a post in the paint. He is strong !!
6-9 Tyler Best/ Spiece Pistols
Fractured his right hand in the final eight. Before that, he just makes all his other players better from his Point Guard / Power forward position..
6-7 Justin Johnson / Bloomington Red
He is a very good Mid Major Power Forward Prospect that has also shown some Small Forward skill..
Many say he is an undersized Hi Major Forward but they have not seen his athletic ability and desire when he is called upon for production.
Merrillville Coach Jim East will not allow Justin to develop small forward skill..
Savvy recruiters will follow Justin's small forward progress closely...

Defense Lifts Indy Warriors To State Championship !

In both the final four action vs. Spiece Pistols and Championship game vs. Team Indiana, The Warriors smothering passing lane defense was the decisive factor in both wins..Up at halftime 37-33 vs. The Pistols, the Warriors trapped and ripped the Pistols in the third quarter enroute to a 19-2 quarter ending run..
The Warriors superior guard play dominated the Pistols backourt in the Warriors 70-56 Win..
Warriors 6-3 Tyler Clevenger , 6-4 Marques Bennett , 5-9 Avery Sheets and 6-2 Antwan Alexander have two modes of defensive pressure. The first is contain and watch mode. The second is an all out attack mode of traps and passing lane ownership that changes the momentum for their team whenver they need a boost.
Bennett keys the attack with his long arms and cat quick hands..
We are up and down with our like of Bennett's game because he shoots a very flat shot and is not always mentally leading things for his team. His physical gifts for a point are however not arguable and unlike so many guards , he feeds the post adeptly and sharply. He was superb and sharp this weekend in leading his team to the highly coveted state championship.
The Pistols heart and soul has always been Russell Trudeau and his Germany trip could not have come at a worse time..Their third quarter folding would have happenned with at least a fight if Trudeau was on the court..
The Ballhandling 6-9 Forward Tyler Best was unable to contribute as he fractured his right hand in final eight action..Best is reportedly now out for 4-6 weeks!!
The young Team Indiana played valliantly for 28 minutes until the Warriors turned the defensive pressure up a notch for the 63-52 Championship Win..
6-3 Sonny Troutman was brilliant in the final four with his quick handed defense and slashing moves to the basket . He finished with 9 vs. The Warriors and fellow Jr. To Be 6-5 Brandon Crone chipped in 13. Troutman was the talk of the tourney with his crafty play .In final four play vs. Bloomington Red, Sonny led his younger team to the 72-71 OT Win over the likes of Chris Hunter, Brandon Cameron, Derrick Graham and Justin Johnson..
Troutman had 16 points, Sam Pharr 13 , Deandre Peyton 14 and 6-0 guards Mait Patt and Chris West scoring 10 each for Team Indiana's win over Bloomington..
The Red without Sean May, finally got some decent production from Chris Hunter (18),Brandon Cameron (13), Justin Johnson (10) and Derrick Graham 14 points. Graham is beginning to adjust to the motion offense system..
Often times Team Indiana had three or more 6-5 Players on the court that as a group, went after the ball much harder than any team in the tourney.
That type effort is now rare from many elite teams but it sure was a joy to watch..
As good as Sonny Troutman was this weekend , he has a long way to go in improving his jump shot. His lefty shot is from his shoulder with absolutely no extension at all. The next level will not allow him free drives to the basket without serious punishment..
Crone and 6-7 Sam Pharr both looked quicker than in past viewings..Crone actually was outside guarding and containing Marques Bennett well..Crone is a solid Mid Major Small Forward prospect. Big Sam Pharr was a load inside at 240 pounds for all others as he knows how to use his wide load to root out players and dish out punishment in the low post. He also is remarkably agile from the wing when he catches it and drives to the basket.. A little undersized at 6-7, Pharr will need to continually prove his value as a Mid Major Power Forward Prospect..

Senior To Be State AAU Finals @ Brownsburg Community School Corporation

The biggest news happened in final 16 Action as Spiece North Stars upset the talented Warrick County in a 9 AM Game..
High Majors Matt Kiefer and Dedrick Finn did not bring their best game . When they are not good ( and who is at 9 AM ?) Warrick does not have enough depth to win against top teams..
The Spiece group is coached by Bob Widmeyer.. Bob is a two time AAU state champion coach who annually derives every ounce of ability from his available talent..
He cited his team's cohesiveness and rebounding for the team's victory..
Angola's 6-6 Chase Verba, Maconaquah's 6-7 Mike Otto and Ft. Wayne Snider's 6-7 Martez Lane keyed the Spiece rebounding victory over Warrick..
The Great win by The North Stars was short lived though as their Final 8 Opponent was Junior To Be Team Indiana..
The mega talented Team Indiana wasted little time in establishing their talent superiority as they earned the lead early and pulled away with a 63-48 win..
High Majors 6-6 Deandre Peyton and 6-3 Sonny Troutman scored 11 and 13 points respectively to lead the victors..
Mid Major 6-7 240 lb.Sam Pharr also muscled in 11 points for the victors..
Spiece North was led by Evansville Harrison's 5-10 Combo Donta Watson's 19 points and Chase Verba's 10 points..
Probably the biggest news of this game is the fact that 6-5 Bil Duany of Team Indiana will not play his Junior season at Bloomington North ..
Bil will undergo knee surgery in order to correct a knee that perpetually becomes dislocated..
The surgery will correct the problem and Bil will rehabilitate into a High Major 6-5 Shooting Guard Prospect by his Senior Season..
The victory over Spiece vaulted the young Team Indiana into the tourney final four..
They now qualify for Nationals in both the Junior and Senior To Be Tourneys ..
By doing so , their $600.00 Team entry fee per each National tourney, will now be paid by The Indiana AAU Office..
Also in final 16 action was a game winning performance by Spiece Pistols Josh Gomes.. Why in the world Spiece Plays even with Billy Shepherd's team is a mystery ..
Only Jared Reeves of Brownsburg is a legitimate 2002 D1 Candidate from that group..
The game was tied at 53 when our favorite Josh Gomes hit the last second trey to win the game...
The Pistols were without Kevin Cates and Russell Trudeau but they still had Tyler Best to lead them..
The Pistols are fortunate to even have Cates vs. The Warriors in their Final Four Game Sunday at noon.
Their 16 ppg. scorer Russell Trudeau dumped on their State Championship Weekend by taking a vacation to Germany..
The strangest loss in The Final 16 was the Indy Aces 102-99 Double OT Loss TO Hoopstars..Hoopstars is a group that only records Shawn Teague of North Central as a Varsity player..
Their remaining roster is listed as only walking the halls at North Central and not even playing school ball...
Many observers asked us what The Aces were doing earlier in the day practicing outside in the 90 degree heat..
We have no clue as we also have no clue why Jon Hunter does absolutely nothing vs. this group of North Central Students that do not even play High School Basketball..
We loved Hunter's game in Ft. Wayne but his AWOL Play vs. this North Central intramural game was noteworthy..
Knowing Hunter was sitting next to Brandon Bradley at halftime, we purposedly asked Bradley where Hunter was.. Hunter nodded that he was next to his coach physically but he was nothing vs. the North Central Intramural team.. We have lowered Hunter in our rankings for his poor performance that does not even rank close as D1 Capable..Hopefully Hunter will rise again.. Time will tell !!
Brandon Cole scored 21 (for The Aces) including 4 threes but he still is not good enough to make the Ben Davis Varsity team..
Cole is at 6-5 a very good D1 Small forward Prospect. Perry Meridian's 6-0 Clint Cunningham also is a very good combo guard that tossed in 18 vs. the North Central Players that got cut from the team..
5-6 Rodney Underwood scored thirty on The Aces from in the lane jumpers to three shots from three..Rodney is the type that cannott be contained and he scores well with his quick pull up jumper...
Mark Underwood down as a tremendous prospect and we will keep track of his game... He has never been able to make the cut at North Central but he single handedly destroyed this East Central Indiana Aces that boasts of just good players.. To not beat this Intramural team from North Central simply proved how soft all of The Indiana Aces are..
Hopefully, the players will elevate their game in July.If not , they need to join their High School Band or some other activity for their focus..

Interesting News is forthcoming about why some of these team coaches organize !
We have learned that a certain Indiana AAU Coach gets paid to coach as did his predecessor last season..
Paid Coaches is a direct violation of AAU Coaching..

John Morningstar Update
Concord High School's 6-10 Center /Power Forward has had many Mid D1 Offers including Bowling Green and Indiana State ..
This weekend he hopes to win a State Championship for The Indy Warriors..
His team is full force so they should be considered a favorite..
The next two weekends , John plans to unoffically visit Vanderbilt and Miami , Ohio ..
Both schools have offered and John's trip to Miami will be his second unofficial visit..
Stay Tuned !!

The Spiece Pistols Kevin Cates will miss Saturday State Championship Play due to a marriage in his family ..
His talented 'mate Russell Trudeau will miss Sunday Final Four Play due to a family trip to Germany..
Without Cates on Saturday , the Pistols may not advance to Sunday..
Without Trudeau on Sunday , Pistols that are not used to delivering-will need to step up and score the 16 points that Russell delivers like Clockwork..

Sean May To Miss AAU State Championship Tourney !
Indiana's most dominating player has decided to forego The State Championships in favor of accepting an invitation to USA Basketball's Camp in Colorado.
The Camp at Colorado Springs is an elite player development camp that only Top 30 Players in the nation are invited to.
His absence @ Brownsburg this weekend certainly will hurt Bloomington Red's Chances for the state title.
Now the IBN College Coach SUBSCRIBERS ,(447 STRONG) ,will better understand why Publisher Reg Tisdale is not organizing a team but only sponsoring teams this year..Players in this day and age can not even committ to compete for a State Championship..
What else is there to play for ??
Teams are too expensive for Coaches to not know who they will have in uniform from weekend to weekend..
National Championships are luck and not a genuine source of pride..
The best teams in America may choose 4 other National tourneys to attend other than AAU Nationals so no team can be called a True National Champion...
Yet, no team worth their salt will miss the State tourney..
When you win state , you are indisputably the best in your State that season.. All other National tourneys can be argued forever about the best team..
The Indy Warriors , Team Indiana,Warrick County and Tiffanys should be at full strength this weekend so they should be primed for a state championship run..
Less is more often times in this game , so also expect the Spiece and Bloomington Red teams to pull together (within their teams) and contribute in a Big Time team run for the State Championship...

The Indiana Senior To Be AAU State Championship Single Elimination Tourney Begins 9 AM @ Brownsburg , Indiana Junior High School
16 teams of primarily Senior To Be Players will be competing both Saturday and Sunday for the state crown and the right to progress towards the National Tourney in July..
Top Junior To Be Players from Team Indiana will be playing this weekend with an outside chance to win the Older Division..
However, their title quest is doubtful as they will need to upset the mighty Senior To Be Programs from Tiffanys , Spiece Pistols , Bloomington Red and Doc Bennett's Indy Warriors..

Coaches from NCAA D3, Junior College and NAIA are eligible to attend the tourney ..
Amazingly , few of those schools choose to evaluate these players ..
Sure , all the players think they can play D1 but in reality 70% of this tourney's participants will play at the College Level that chooses to not watch the players..
That is D3 - NAIA-JUCO !!
Why ? We only guess their excuse is that they cannott even recruit until the D1's are done !!
WRONG!
What you do is show the athletes that you have interest in them and that you want them in your program..
They remember you when they do not receive the D1 Offer that they dreamed of..
Several programs yearly do that work at Brownsburg and their work ethic has paid off..
Last weekend alone , Depauw , Hanover , Manchester, Indiana Wesleyan , St. Francis , Rose Hulman , and Marian . were all in attendance doing their evaluations and homework...
Is it a coincidence that all those programs sport winning records ?

Juniors 6-0 Scott Strahm /Avon and 6-6 Dana Scifres /South Vermillion
These two Class Of 2002 College Prospects are renegades from both the Indy Metros program and the vagabond "here today gone tomorrow " Indiana Select Fly By Nite operation.. Who can they "select" that want to be selected by Team Indiana,Spiece,No Excuses or Bloomington Red ??...
No One !
The Good News is that many solid Players are still available after the above elite programs (No Excuses, Spiece , Bloomington and Team Indiana ) have made their player selections in Central Indiana!!
After those elite programs have made their choices, all the others scramble for the best available talent..
Strahm and Scifres are betting their College Future in the hands of Scott's father Terry..
Terry is a veteran High School Coach that has under taken this huge task of providing a team that will expose these kids talents to College Recruiters..
They call their team Spiece South but they do not wear Spiece jerseys..
Coach Strahm must have a plan to maximize his guys College Exposure in July..
Scott Strahm tells IBN that Central Michigan, Southern Illinois , Central Florida and St.Josephs College (In.)have shown the most interest..
Strahm may very well be the best 6-0 under guard in Indiana. His game is very solid. 6-6 Vertical PF Dana Scifres says most interest is for his Track and Field abilities but he receives one of the million letters sent from Iowa State ... Real interest is from Morehead State and Hanover ..

Leo High School has (2002) 6-5 Jeff Clark that is a very athletic and active small forward/power forward prospect. He faces the basket well as a scorer and he relentlessly crashes the boards after every shot..
Clark has a 1330 SAT now but will not stop retakes until he reaches his goal of 1400..
He is a tremendous Ivy League and D2 Scholarship Prospect Candidate.. 6-4 Sr. Jeff Renn of Hobart will play College Basketball at Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana..
Gary Wirt's 6-2 Sr. Minuyard Wheeler will join Gary Roosevelt's 6-4 Danny Smith at South Suburban Junior College next season as Freshman in South Holland , Illinois...
Wheeler scored 52 points in one game this past season and he is a huge addition to Terry Collins program @ SSC ..

Purdue Walkons are Annually Political Choices that never received a sniff from D1 schools..
Todd Foster , Tim Ervin , Andrew Ford , Chad Kerkhoff ,etc.all were walk ons via alumni influence or pressure..
None of that group ever was offered by D1 schools...In their defense, they were all tough players physically that were content to be part of the program and not really contribute..
Purdue Sophomore 5-11 Kurt Klepsch of Crown Point never was politically correct so he never was invited to Walk On..
His game was not D1 refined after High School; but, his past two years of strength gain and jumper extension has dramatically improved his total game..
Klepsch now has preferred walk on team roster guarantees from D1's Illinois-Chicago and Wisconsin-Milwaukee..
Former Purdue asst. Bruce Webber has also said that he will give Klepsch a walk on roster spot at his Southern Illinois D1 Program..
Not bad for a player that was never considered in Purdue's list of Political Choices..
Klepsch is considering all three options in addition to playing at NCAA D3 Depauw..

Terren Wilson Update
The talented Warren Central Graduating Playmaker is now receiving a great deal of interest since he raised his SAT Score from 780 to 1010 .
Colleges that have offerd him include IUPUI , Idaho ,Loyola and Central Michigan..
Two schools that are currently trying to free up a scholarship for him at this time are San Jose State and Hampton..
Wilson will probably consider the latter two situations but pass on the first four..
Now that Terren is a qualifier academically, he will consider all Point Guard openings that open up in the NCAA D1 Ranks..
A cannot miss Mid Major, the crafty Wilson proved thru the Bloomington Red program that he is capable of playing with the Best in America.
He led The Red to a third place National finish .His running mates were Chris Thomas and Kyle Hankins..
If Wilson is not comfortable with the D1 Offers that materialize, we expect him to honor his Junior College Committment to Cincinnati Tech JC ..

Evansville Basketball Club's Junior To Be Tourney
Apparently the Highlight of the tourney was the three teams that completely screwed up the well planned tourney by pulling out two days before Tip Off..
Why would any group waste an entry fee and not show up for their competition committment ??
Priorities and committment fulfillment are obviously not important to those three groups...
Tourney organizer Mike Thomas had to exhaustively work over time in order to re-organize the event. He pulled the event off and fortunately it was good for his Club that hopefully will soon not be short handed every weekend by losing Posts 6-3 Joe Schuler and 6-7 Matt Brinkman to Baseball..
In the tourney final four, Spiece Storm (Vincennes) beat Bloomington White while No Excuses defeated The Hoosier Show (LaPorte)..
Gary Betts No Excuses drilled The Storm 75-57 for the tourney Championship..
Even with the No Excuses victory, the only outstanding player report that we received from many was that Eastern Green's 6-6 240 LB. Clint Burris was dominating on the boxes at both ends of the court..
As we report on this tourney we are also saddened with the knowledge that Evansville will soon lose Mike Thomas's Basketball Club..
He plans to only Coach next season..
No one has provided more exposure for players in Evansville than Mike Thomas..
He has selflessly organized these travelling teams since the mid 80's..
Yet, as he yearly raises money to pay for the Club, he unbelievably has parents that question where their piddly $600.00 AD sales are going !!
$600.00 ? Any team that takes his schedule will annually spend $1500.00 or more per player just for entry fees , Coaches travel expenses, college coaches phone calls , and time spent with the athletes..
The irony of it all is the fact that players families like Calbert Cheaney's and Walter McCarty's will swear by Mike's program; while, other participants parents of D3 Possibles will question if they should buy Mike's breakfast somewhere.
These parents that question Mike's finances are not blue collar types but people that earn well over $200,000..
Just the thought of Mike Thomas or any other Volunteer Coach being scrutinized by Wealthy people like that is sickening to say the least !!
In our opinion, Mike Thomas cannot shut down his program soon enough !!
The idiotic critiscm he receives as a Volunteer is a waste of his time !!
Once he does finally shut down , The Pocket City will lose a tremendous youth advocate !!
Evansville's Future College Oriented Basketball Preps will spend a great deal of time and money participating in Programs outside of Evansville !!

Mystery Man Antwan " Bookie" Alexander

We are steadfast in our rankings of the best players regardless of what they may need to overcome if they clearly have more talent than others..
Antwan has vertical rise and deep shooting gifts that players only dream about..
His Physical Gifts and skill are Legit NBA or NFL Caliber..
This past weekend at Brownsburg his game was AWOL and only worth mentioning since we previously ranked him so High As A HIGH MAJOR...
As a second team member of Dr. Bennett's Indy Warriors , Antwan did nothing at either end of the court that remotely resembles our lofty ranking !!
Again , who else continues to recognize his game regardless of his anemic performances ??
No one but IBN has the patience to highly rank such gifted kids like Antwan , Greg Stone , Chris Hunter and Kevin Jones,Jr. even though they either do nothing on the court or their crazy mentality is nearly impossible to coach...
They just are better than others from a talent basis but we are tired of making excuses for their lame performances...
Antwan clearly must learn to guard people laterally and forcefully lead his team as a Big Time Player.. He was not even a factor in his team's win over talented Ohio Valley.. We will report on his performance next weekend in the single elimination tournament..
At this stage of Senior to be Player careers, it is time to either play to your expectations or join a team at The Local Community Center !!

Kevin Jones , Sr. Resigns From IUPUI Asst. Coaching Position !!

We have learned that IUPUI Coach Kevin Jones has accepted employment as Coach and HeadMaster at 1A Knightstown Morton Memorial.. The boarding school for troubled youths is in the process of moving towards Academy status..
No one in the Class Of 2002 has proven more uncoachable or troubled than Kevin Jones, Jr. -so this is a great opportunity for "KJ" to at least prove that he can play for his father..
If the mega talented 6-2 playmaker cannot produce for his father then we will lose all respect for him and his game. Last time we looked at other professional paid services, we are the only service that even ranks Kevin Jones,Jr..
Based on talent alone , Junior is as good as Dedrick Finn and any other Guard in the Class ..
Problem is , his conduct on and off the court has been abominable according to insider -not "hater" sources..
Our situation is based on talent period :and, in the same manner as we approach any athlete - we believe in kids and we are smart enough to realize that many athletes emotionally mature at different rates..
We hope that Junior will finally realize and actualize his huge potential for his father ;because, if he cannott- then he needs to take his attitude and selfish game to an Indianapolis Park League !
Kevin Jones , Jr. has a chance now at Knightstown to prove that he is a champ and not a chump !!
The ball is in Junior's Court !
His running mate at Guard may very well be the troubled 6-0 Anwar Jones..
Jones has left the basketball picture at Ben Davis and is reportedly in need of a boarding school or some type of secure haven from the Westside streets of Indianapolis...
Anwar like KJ is a very good Mid Major Prospect with retarded baggage issues..
Stay Tuned For More Knightstown Morton Memorial Basketball News...
Believe this , the enrollees in the school will double in the next two months !!

Tiffanys Upsets Warrick County 85-76 To Qualify For The AAU State Championship Tourney

Tied with SYF at 1-1 in Preliminary Pool Play, Tiffanys had to defeat Warrick County in order to reach next week's tourney. Determined to do just that, Tiffanys double teammed and mugged All American 6-9 Matt Kiefer the entire game.
Single coverage resulted in Kiefer easily scoring down low or off the drive from the High Post..
Finishing with 21 hard earned points, six of Matt's markers came from 23'..
Warrick lead for 28 minutes of the game but they were unable to find the needed depth to support their other consistent scorers Dedrick Finn (14 points) and Bryan Mckain ( 17 points) .. Finn was exceptional in spurts but rarely left cruise control for most of this game..
Dedrick is capable of much more and he must have his top game each nite out if Warrick is to win this summer..
Much of Warrick's demise is due to the spirited play of Tiffanys..
Quick on quick 5-11 Chris Pompey from Elkhart Central playmaked the team and ran stride for stride with Mr. Finn..
Pompey also chipped in 12 points..
6-5 Jared Shaw of Warsaw did much of the banging, grabbing and battling of Kiefer inside but he also reached double scoring figures with 13 points from the perimeter. Shaw is a Small College Power forward prospect but this day he shot the ball like a small forward.. Rarely will you see a player today wear eyeglasses on the court but Shaw sure did. They certainly were effective as his lens corrected vision enabled him to drain three treys..
6-7 Chris Chalko struggled early with man coverage of Kiefer and with finishing shots down low. Chalko goes hard on every possession but he is not yet a strong finisher. Once Chris relaxed, he relentlessly focused his aggression on rebounding and doing what he does best.. Chalko is best at screening and releasing to the corner or High Post for the 15-17' shot..
He hit four of those jumpers and a frre throw to finish with 13 points...
The player of the game and all weekend was 6-2 Quennel Young of Elkhart Memorial.. The combo scoring guard tossed in 30 points and demonstrated why he must now be considered as one of the top shooting guard prospects in the class.
Light at no more than 160 pounds, Young has a quick crossover to a pull up jumper and is very crafty finding his shot off his stop and go dribble moves..
Some players shoot to the left or right better off the dribble but Young is equally good to either direction..His pulls were to 22' and his rise and shot extension is very hard to contest. His recruiting to this point has been slow but Mid Majors can mark him down as yet another solid NCAA Mid Major Prospect from the Class Of 2002..
Young was not showing the ruggedness and versatility of a Josh Gomes but he has shot the ball on the move better than anyone in the class thus far this spring summer...
Finishing 1-2 in their Pool Play, both Tiffanys and Warrick County now advance to next weekend's single elimination Championship Round tourney.. More Soon !!

Brownsburg Senior To Be Tourney Shrinks To Only 32 teams !!

The once proud 84 team tourney has shrunken to a mere 32 teams..
Understandably ,the local teams that cannot compete with the All Star State Outfits are rarely organized anymore..
Let's face it, after you pay insurance, the entry fees and lodging for two weekends-who wants the expense..
That money is better served paying for a College Exposure July or September Event..
Brownsburg has at least thirty gyms but this measly 32 team tourney "needs two weekends" for completion..
Predictably, Shooting Guard Play has dominated the action thus far..
The 2002 Class has special players in Sean May , Matt Kiefer , Kevin Cates,Dedrick Finn ,Antwan Alexander and Delco Rowley ;but, Shooting Guards with D1 ability have dominated much of the action.. The Class Of 2002 is loaded with capable prospects..
This weekend alone shooters 6-2 David Inabnit (Whiteland) ,6-2 Jared Reeves (Brownsburg) ,6-3 Bruce Horan (New Castle) ,6-2 Kelly Robbins (Delta) , 6-4 Daniel Taylor (Tipton) , 6-2 Quennel Young ( Elkhart Memorial) and 6-3 Chris Ponce'(Westview) have all stood out and shot the ball well with scorching accuracy..
Inabnit stands out because at 6-2 he has combo skill , a sweet jumper and a fierce passion for the game. He is at least D2-D1 in playing potential..
Reeves lit Bloomington Red up for thirty points in a loss that could have been a win if Billy Shepherd would have had comparable players to Reeves talent...
Reeves scored most on off the dribble jumpers..
Horan and Taylor are both tall shooters with Small Forward skill otherwise.. No one busts zones better than Horan/Taylor but they both still need to prove a scoring arsenal off the dribble that is proven against top flite competition..
Robbins, Young and Ponce' are all very solid Mid Major D1 Prospects that have been allowed to prove their versatility as players..
All three are 6-2 or 6-3 and they will score off their handle or they will score off the pass as they come off a screen...
In related news, we have learned that 6-7 Martez Lane /Ft Wayne Snider has earned all failing grades this past semester except for Physical education. How this happens ,when an athlete runs with both the basketball and track coach, is beyond belief !
Where is the monitoring of the athlete's academics ??
Hopefully Martez Lane will somehow graduate and find a Junior College when he is mature enough for the next level...

In this day and age of soft players we got lucky when we watched Southside Indy vs. The Motion team from Southern Indiana..Tell City's 6-4 Football Player Phil Johnson could be a good shooting guard prospect but his love is football QB ..
The story at Brownsburg thus far in our opinion was the 71-68 Southside win over Phil Johnson's Tell City based Senior To BE TEAM..
The Indy South team leader is Inabnit but the player is 6-0 Whiteland Freshman Michael Bentley who scored 23 points in the win and he gained the respect of all with his very mature game..... Bentley is a combo guard that can score ,defend and make plays off the dribble to win..
Our only question with Bentley is whether or not he will grow and also develop more physically ??
The best news is that Bentley is only a Sophomore this 2001 September...

The AAU 17- Under Boys Basketball tourney started yesterday @ Brownsburg High School..
The Evansville Basketball Club is also hosting a 16-under tourney this weekend in the pocket city..

Jon Hunter Is The Junior Class Top Sleeper This Spring !!
6-3 Josh Gomes of Heritage Christian has risen to the top shooting guard prospect in the Class as a Mid Major ;and, 6-9 Kevin Cates of Marion has risen from Mid to Hi Major status.
Their development thru the ranks is fun to watch because both players play like Soldiers !!
They leave nothing on the court after a game!
The Best D1 Prospect ,that we have seen, that has received little to no recognition is Gaston, Indiana's Jon Hunter of Wes-Del High School ..
Sure he has received token interest from several D1 mailings that include : Wright State , Morehead State , Yougstown State , Evansville , Central Michigan , IPFW , New Hampshire , and Lamar (Texas)...
Lamar and New Hampshire show the most interest.
All the Creditable College Programs saw Jon in the INBNEWS.COM Showcase Of Stars last September 10, 2000..
We have followed Hunter this past Spring and he has more potential than anyone in the class.
At 6-6 , he has Luke Recker type physical gifts in his ability to block shots, rebound and dunk from the free throw line..
The major difference between Luke and Jon is confidence and perimeter skill..
Hunter is solid to 17' but he is not real consistent to the trey line..
He has good ballhandling skill but he is a pure three ;where, Luke could have played point at Dekalb..Hunter has scored 20ppg and grabbed 10ppg at 1A Wes Del last season Amongst triple teams.. He has 903 points in his three years there. Hunter shot 53% from the field and shot 70% from the line last season..
Scribble Hunter down as a Mid Major D1 Prospect if he continues to raise his game.
In July, His Indy Aces summer team will at the least play @ The Hoosier Shootout and Kentucky Hoopfest..

Crown Points Best Player In 1999 Was 5-11 Kurt Klepsch

Klepsch as a Senior routinely hit the big shot that led Crown Point to many big wins... After High School Kurt received interest from Colgate and Small Colleges..
He chose to attend Purdue and study Mathematics..
He never lost his love for the game and he was very good in Purdue open court scrimmages vs. current Boilers Joe Marshall and Andrew Ford..
The Boilers would never give him a sniff as a walk on since his politics were not as strong as players like Purdue Legend Bob Ford's son Andrew or other players like Chad Kerkhoff..
After two years without hoops, Kurt will walk on at either Illinois-Chicago , Southern Illinois , Evansville , Wisconsin- Milwaukee or Depauw (Greencastle,In) ..
Depauw has always been Kurt's mom choice but she also does not want him to study Math and be a High School Coach (like he wants)..
She thinks Math teachers will be phased out via internet teachings..
Hmmm??
Father Fred is a premier Orthopedic surgeon that probably will not be phased out anytime soon from replacing Hips, etc...
Player Klepsch has been offered a preferred walk on roster spot with a chance of earning a scholarship @ Jimmy Collins Illinois at Chicago..
He will also audition soon at Wisconsin-Milwaukee for new Coach Bruce Pearl.. Pearl has previously stated that he will also take the talented 21 year old Klepsch for the next two seasons...
Klepsch is the unique seasoned athlete that has the maturity to play but also never needs an Athletic Scholarship...

Michigan City's Paul Kopanski Signs With Northwest Junior College (Wyoming)!
Hank Kilander of Inside High School Sports is reporting that The "Polish Post" has decided to play for Ken Rochlitz's Cowboy Program..
Mid Majors should follow Paul's progress closely because in two years the 6-8 banger should be much stronger and quicker..
Northwest has been a haven for Northern Indiana preps ..
South Bend LaSalle's 6-6 John Collins and Gary Mann's 6-5 Chris Jones both played for Rochlitz this past season..

Park Tudor's Marius Kliokys Signs With NCAA D2 Power Hillsdale College
After Marius was lied to about a D1 offer from California Poly State University, Hillsdale Head Coach Bill Sall wasted little time in signing the talented 6-2 Lithuanian Shooting Guard ..
Keep an eye on D2 Hillsdale next season because they are on the verge of making a Big Run To The National Championships..

Cedric Moodie Nixes Pro Tryouts For Last Year Of Eligibility at NCAA D2 Indianapolis !!
Once Cedric Moodie decided not to return to Ball State for his final year of playing eligibility , we believed he was a sure bet to hook up with an agent and be placed on an European team.
The bottom line on the "moodie" Cedric is the fact that he is a microwave Big Time scorer . He can put Big numbers up in his offensive concept but he has never ever been a good player in a team concept..
Without question, Moodie only agreed on attending Indianapolis for one year because he was guaranteed playing time and a green light shooting situation...
Let's face it , he already has graduated from Ball State.. He only will play D2 with the assurance that he can blow out at 25-30 points a game and attract NBA scouts. His ability to lead Indianapolis thru the tournament will be the intangible that measures his worth as a Pro Prospect..
The University Of Indianapolis has chosen Cedric Moodie in order to Profoundly make the statement that they intend to Win The Great Lakes Valley Conference !!
If Cedric Moodie is truly a Pro Prospect then he should be able to lead Indianapolis to a National Championship !!

Class Of 2002 Small Forward Recruiting
The best of the bunch may very well be one you will have little opportunity to evaluate..
He is 6-5 Rodney Carney of Indianapolis Northwest and his Coach Bobby Wilkerson has never allowed Rodney to play on a high exposure team..
Rodney is a very active Tracy Foster/Winston Morgan/Steve Hart type player that has the "tweener label".
We have seen Carney shoot well to 17' but his true game is slashing the paint, offensive rebounding and dunking over bigger players..
He has a 3.7/4.0 GPA but still needs test score.
He says his coach, The Indiana Legend Bob Wilkerson, will be taking him on a visit to Indiana University real soon..
He also has received soft interest from Notre Dame and real interest from Mid Majors Bowling Green and Wright State ..
He was allowed to play with Soph PG 'mate Ryan Gold as the oldest player on a team playing up at the BCI National Qualifier..
Rodney was unable to tell us when and where he will again be playing...
Believe this, if Carney's game is not exposed in July to College Recruiters, then IBN will have another item on our August agenda !!
Benton Central's Blake Schoen is a 6-4 "Run Thru Walls" type player that is not sure even if he wants College Basketball or College Football.
No one has rated him higher than IBN !!
His tenacity not skill has excited us. We believe once he lets football alone, he will even develop into a shooting guard. He will not any time soon so we watch him on weekends and he misses layups only because of his football diversion.
Regardless , he was invited to NIKE Camp so he will be able to maximize his exposure..
We have no idea why he or Evan Seacat of Paoli were invited to NIKE when they are not the top ranked prospects..
We believe both players to be solid NCAA D1 Mid Major Prospects but Indiana has a few others that are at a higher level.
NIKE selections in Indiana are far more political than any other State in America...
Anonymous player Lobbyists score many points for no real reason or any future benefit to NIKE..
The process makes no sense and only hurts their camp credibility..
Both players are NCAA D1 Mid Major Prospects but should never have been chosen over Kevin Cates/Marion, Dedrick Finn / Castle, Marques Bennett / Brebeuf , Marcus Ford / Gary Wirt, Russell Trudeau / Lafayette Catholic , Anthony Winchester / Austin ,John Morningstar/Concord ,Antwan Alexander/Arlington etc.
Blake Schoen has big schools recruiting him for football and he has one D1 offer from Ft. Wayne D1 IPFW for Basketball..
For Basketball , He also has interest from Butler , Ball State , and South West Missouri State....

Gary Wirt High School's 6-5 Brandon Lee at 200 pounds is a very good shooter to 22' and a pure Small Forward... Brandon is good off two feet in his vertical rebounding and drop step dunking..He should be an academic qualifier as Akron and College Of Charleston has requested his transcripts..
Unlike Carney , Lee will play in July during all the College Exposure tourneys..
Brandon Lee will also receive interest from Valparaiso , Iowa State and Tulsa..

Wednesday June 6 ,2001

Academic Recent Qualifier PG Terren Wilson (Warren Central ) is now receiving offers from Central Michigan , Idaho , IUPUI and interest from Seton Hall and Xavier..
Xavier reportedly wants Terren to play one year at Cincinnati Tech JC and then play three years for them..
Seton Hall asst. Billy Garrett (Son Of Indiana University Legend Bill,Sr. ) has watched Terren since the 8th grade and he now is excited about Wilson's qualifying academically...
Wilson decision is soon !!
Call his father Jim Kasberg for the latest at 317-585-0535...

This past Tuesday Purdue University for the first time offered 6-8 Delco Rowley of Arlington High ..
They are late and months behind Ohio State in offering Delco..
We saw Delco play very well Saturday in his 3 PM game but now we have reports that he was displaying a great deal of poor attitude in the remaining camp time..
Delco was supposedly disrespecting his camp coach Tracy Webster of Ball State ..
Just when we thought Delco was turning the corner from his immature 9th-10th grade years, Rowley may be taking a nosedive back into his immaturity..
Once someone develops their body into a 6-8 235 pound Karl Malone work in progress , we expect cockiness on the court to follow; but, trash talking disrespect for proven former players and now coaches like Tracy Webster is inexcusable..
We are Delco Rowley's biggest fan but we hope he will choose to develop his social and interpersonal skills in the same manner that he has developed his body and game..

Morehead State University NCAA D1 Asst. Brian Lane is named the Head Coach at Transylvania University ..
Transylvania is a small (1000 students) Lexington , Kentucky based University that competes Independently in The NAIA.
The good news about The NAIA ,unlike NCAA D3 , is that they have athletic scholarships to offer.
Expect Brian Lane to be patrolling Southern Indiana for talent each recruiting season.

Hank Kilander of Inside High School Sports is reporting that Eric Washington of Lafayette Central Catholic fame has signed to play NCAA D1 Basketball with San Jose State University..
The 6-7 Lefty Small Forward Washington has spent the last three years at Barton Junior College. He now is reunited with East Chicago Folk hero Carlton "Oudie" Baker as Juniors at San Jose State ..
Baker and Washington played the past two seasons at Barton Junior College for Martinsville Native Ryan Wolf.
Do not be surprised if Coach Wolf also follows his two stars to San Jose State as an Assistant..

Junior Recruiting News (Class Of 2002)
Mishawaka Marian's 6-8 Chris Chalko is like many tall, thin growing Juniors in that he needs a great deal of strength gain and mass if he intends to play NCAA D2-D1 Basketball..
However, Chalko has what many tall players do not and that is a nice touch to 17' and a soft shot in the paint.
He reminds us of former Bremen standout Adam Mark who was a freshman at Belmont University this season..
Chalko is ideally suited for that type of motion offense and the reason that the Nashville, Tennessee University has thus far showed the most interest in Chalko..
Others showing interest for Chalko are Cleveland State , Wichita State , Youngstown State , Elon , Central Michigan , William and Mary , The University Of Charleston and Virginia Military Institute..
Lafayette Central Catholic's 6-5 Russell Trudeau has offers from Indiana State , Davidson , Wright State and interest from Bowling Green ..
Our favorite Shooting Guard Prospect is now Heritage Christian's Josh Gomes ..
The 6-3 Scorer /defender has always been offered by Indiana State and now he is pursued by Wright State , Butler and Bowling Green ..
Gomes reported late to The Purdue recruiting camp since he retook his SAT in the morning..
Josh's playing situation and eligibilty at Heritage is still in question next season as is his ability to achieve the necessary SAT..
He has a long way to go in achieving a passing score but his Core GPA is solid..
Marion's 6-9 Kevin Cates recent emergence into High Major status has peaked the attention of High Majors Michigan , Xavier and Wake Forest ..
Cates has Mid Major offers from Indiana State , Ball State and Bowling Green..

Monday June 4 ,2001

Once we read Judson Burton's Ball State site (burtonsbsu.com) , we learned that Muncie Central's Jumping Johnny Miller has decided to attend Junior College vs. paying his way in year one to Ball State...
Sunday nite Johnny tells IBN that he favors Colby JC in Kansas while also considering Cincinnati Tech JC if his friend Terren Wilson honors his JC signing --even though Wilson is now a D1 Qualifier..
John Miller is also considering full athletic scholarships from Paris Texas JC and Vincennes JC ...
We believe that Miller is headed to Colby JC..

6-7 Angelo Smith's (Jr. Lawrence North ) has now hired a personal trainer in order to reach his November 2001 goal of adding 25 pounds to his 200 pound frame..
Smith has little interest from Hi Majors but considerable following from Butler , Indiana State , Ball State , Cleveland State , Bradley and Wright State ... We believe that Smith is working for that Hi Major body that he is not yet close to achieving..

The Purdue Elite Invitational Camp
You certainly must give the Boilers credit for organizing this huge recruiting ploy..
Pick a dead period weekend where little is going on and invite 85 of your top recruiting targets for an Institutional camp.
Make the event legal by charging each camper $75.00 each, and make the camp politically correct by inviting your favorite Mid Major College Asst. Coaches and key Prep Coaches -to be camp counselors..
What Prospect would turn the invite down even if they do not have dreams of Purdue ??
They would be afraid to let The Boilers think that they are not interested by snubbing the invite..
What Mid Major program would not send an asst. to work the camp ??
As camp counselors, The chief recruiters were able to speak freely with the prospects and impress the players with their knowledge of the game..
For example, Southern Illinois scored major brownie points with Tyler Best when asst.coach Matt Painter took Best aside and taught him the basic pointers of stepping into his jump shot..
Best left the court inspired with a few tips that will improve his erratic shot..
The Camp fee included four hearty meals, academic lectures, and Junior High Offensive shooting drills.
That was just a window dressing prelude to the big showdown between Top Prospects. The main event began at 3 PM Saturday..
After whisking off the secondary recruits to the adjacent Practice facility next to Mackey Arena,Jay Price divided his Prime Recruiting targets into two teams for an officiated game in Mackey Arena..
The Black team paired Evansville Mater Dei's Matt Kiefer with Chicago Providence St.Mel's 6-7 Stanley Gaines.
Their backcourt included South Bend Clay's 6-1 Super Sophomore Sylvester Mayes..
The white team paired 6-7 Angelo Smith of Indpls. Lawrence North with 6-8 Delco Rowley of Indpls. Arlington..
Kiefer dominated this game from the start with his drop step dunking, Wes Unseld like outlet passes, mid range jump shooting and "takes" off the dribble from the Hi Post..
Matt finished the game with 20 points, 7 boards, 4 assists and three vicious block shots in leading his team to the 76-67 win..
Kiefer just keeps getting better virtually each time out.
He reported to IBN that he still plans to make his unofficial visits to Iowa, Notre Dame and Kansas but he also stated that he is not sure when he will find time..
He stated that he does become homesick during all this Basketball travel..
Now #1 IN HIS CLASS with a 3.96 GPA, Matt also retook the SAT Saturday morning in hopes of improving his 1100 score to at least 1300..
Matt will finish the summer playing in State AAU at Brownsburg Indiana and then during July he will play in The Dallas BCI and Orlando AAU..
Stanley Gaines at 6-7 has greatly improved his strength to 220 of muscle.
Always very explosive around the rim, Gaines is much like former Boiler Greg Mcquay but with a better scoring touch..
Gaines finished with 8 points and 12 rebounds.
Gaines is coached at St.Mel by former Boiler Tim Ervin so Purdue must be considered a leader for Stanley.
Gaines can compete in The Big Ten but is much better suited for Mid Majors.
He struggled finishing several shots when challenged by the long armed 6-8 Delco Rowley.
What will he do against 6-10 players on a nightly basis in The Big Ten ??
Great it was to see Sylvester Mayes playing in this event with Gaines and Kiefer !
Simply put,Mayes is Indiana's second best Guard to Dedrick Finn....
This game he drained three treys off the dribble ,scored 16 total points and tossed 6 assists..
What bothers us is the fact that he was upset in missing two dunks..Forget about it Sylvester ! His game is remarkably sharp for only playing in The South Bend Newman Center.
He and Sophomore 6-8 Brandon Dixon now tell us that they would play for The Indy Aces but Brandon Bradley simply quit calling them..
It is Unbelievable to think that the anemic Bloomington Red would not pick up The gifted Mayes !!
Angelo Smith played extremely hard in this game as he does every time he steps on the court..
His 6-7 PF Game is reinforced by his incredible wing span of at least 7-0..
He boarded well and banged with the much stronger Gaines and Kiefer, but Smith needs a great deal of muscle mass gain for the Next Level.
He did toss in 10 hard earned points but also was unable to finish several other shots.
High Majors would need to be able and gauge whether Smith can gain the needed strength because he has not done so in the past year.
Smith is however a real nice Mid Major Prospect that will contribute at that level his second year in College with natural strength progression..
Delco Rowley like Kiefer is just getting better all the time.
Delco at 235 pounds of muscle has all the physical tools for a great career in The Big Ten..
He really seems to enjoy the game a great deal more than he did last year. He certainly understands body positioning in the Low Post now and his scoring arsenal now includes a legit 15' elbow shot. Off the dribble he has a consistent mid range turn around jumper. Drop Step Rim Rattling is unstoppable when Rowley turns towards the baseline and steps to the rim..
Rowley's best weapon is his jump hook that he throws to 12'. His arms are so long, when Rowley sticks his left shoulder in his opponents chest, the contender has no chance at blocking his shot..
Rowley has worked hard at actualizing his huge potential..The scary thing is he still has more upside in his large frame/game..
Rowley had mentioned Iowa,Iowa State and Ohio State in past conversations but he now says that he is WIDE OPEN!!
Both Rowley's and Kiefer's comments, lead us to believe ,that this camp and all the Purdue hospitality has scored major recruiting points for The Boilers.
Do not be surprised if Purdue receives committments soon from either Rowley or Kiefer.
Like Brandon Mcknight last season, The Boilers need committments from their targets before The Open July evaluation period. If not, they risk losing the mega talents to other High Majors..

Muncie Central's Rumored Eligible 7-0 Player is Serbian 7-0 Milovan Savovich

He never was given eligibility at Muncie Central and he has now signed a Junior College letter of intent with Ancilla College ..

6-3 240 Post Maurice Barr of Arlington reportedly will start his College Career at Glen Oaks Junior College in Michigan..
Amidst all the D1 talented players at Arlington, Barr was the best scorer ..Barr will never play D1 but he will win games for Glen Oaks with his ferocious low post play..Barr is just a huge body inside that finishes all from the blocks and he bangs back offensive rebounds with authority..
Barr will have a good small college career after Junior College unless he finally decides to pick up football. If he does that, he has a chance to play in the NFL one day..

Saturday June 2,2001

West Lafayette's Kyle Dietrich Signs With NCAA D2 St. Michaels (Vermont)
Previously we announced that the 6-6 Post would play College Basketball @ Marian College in Indianapolis..
That certainly was Dietrich's intention until this full athletic scholarship became offered to him..
Marian is an NAIA Program that is able to offer help financially but usually not to the extent that a NCAA D2 can..
St. Michaels was 27-4 last season and they finished ranked third in the Nation..
St.Michaels Head Coach Tom O'shea saw Dietrich perform last July in The Louisville,Kentucky Hoopfest..

1000 Colleges Received our April 7-8 report so who will be the brilliant recruiters that actually read it and are smart enough to sign those top prospects that we labeled as D2-D1??
6-3 Bryce Johnson of Michigan has received interest from Colby, Black Hawk and Kellog JC's..
David Gullett /Gary Mann is a tremendous combo guard with elite athleticism that desires Midwestern JC..
6-2 Maurice Buckner /Terre Haute has a high GPA and extreme athleticism at both ends of the floor.
A relative to Quinn Buckner, Maurice has never played High School ball but if he did he would be top 25 in Indiana .Maurice Blocks shots, drains pulls , defends, playmakes-Maurice does all well..
Family instability has kept him from the court..
Indiana asst. Julius Smith got so excited when he saw Buckner that he said Buckner would be a perfect player for Prep school and then to Indiana..
Smith called Buckner but since then Smith's job title at Indiana has changed with the hiring of former IU/NBA PLayer and NBA asst. Jim Thomas ..Smith is reportedly being shipped off to the radio booth as Don Fisher's analysis..
In the meantime,Buckner is a huge sleeper prospect that will hugely help some program.. 6-4 Rufus Robertson /Warren Central has a 1020 GPA and a 45 plus vertical jump. He has huge potential and a desire to refine his raw skills into a bigtime Player..
He was always behind good players at Warren..
Peru's Brandon Appleton and Scottsburg's Nathan Hill are two disciplined , skilled guards that have been overlooked by the NCAA D2..
More Soon !

Purdue University is Conducting Elite Invitation Only Camp
This weekend 85 elite prospects have been invited to this first ever institutional camp..
Tyler Best , Delco Rowley, Kevin Cates , and Matt Kiefer are just a few of the top notch prospects that will be playing.

St. Joseph's College Hires Ken Carrillo !

The NCAA D2 Great Lakes Valley Conference Institution has hired Ken Carrillo as their 15th Head Basketball Coach in their 86 year history.
Previously, Carrillo had been asst. to former St. Joe Head Coach Dave Balza.
Balza recently resigned St.Joe's to take the Head Coaching position at Florida Gulf Coast College..
Carrillo has previous Head Coaching experience at Jamestown Community College .In his seven year stint ,Carrillo led the Jamestown, New York College to a 102-90 record..

Juniors Recruiting
6-9 Adam Bellar / Alexandria is drawing interest from Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan , Central Michigan , Central Florida and Western Michigan ..Bellar plays with The Indy Aces..
6-5 Carson Oren of Mishawaka Marian is receiving interest from College Of Charleston , William and Mary , Lafayette College ,New Hampshire , Youngstown State , Dartmouth and Harvard..Oren plays with Tiffanys
6-0 Tony Bollier of Leo High School has received widespread interest from Grace College , IPFW, Manchester and Northwestern University ..Bollier is travelling with The Spiece Pistols..

Friday June 1 , 2001

Now that Warren Central's Terren Wilson has achieved the D1 passing score on the SAT , Wilson now joins Plainfield's Jake Wiltrout as the best D1 available 6-0 PG Prospects from Indiana..
Wilson is a pure playmaker while Jake is more of a scoring combo guard..
Both are very good Mid Major D1 Prospects that understandably have had to battle with America's Guards for all 6-0 Guard Scholarships..
6-6 (2003) Adam Liddell of Dekalb tells IBN that Iowa, Michigan State and Purdue have shown a great deal of interest in his game thru mailings and calls to his coach..

Juniors Class Of 2002 Recruiting News
6-9 Tyler Best / Lafayette Catholic has offers from Indiana State, Wright State , Purdue and Ball State..
He is also being recruited strongly by Florida , Louisville, Michigan , Georgia Tech and Virginia...
Best will use NIKE Camp to gauge the sincere interest from Colleges..
The state's leading scorer is 6-2 Seth Colclasure of Belmont ..
Seth is a great motion offensive Mid Major SG Prospect that screens for shooters.. Seth is very disciplined/smart and also used to having every set play go thru him..
Seth has interest from Valparaiso, Western Michigan , Ball State and Evansville ...
6-8 Alan Cornett of Lawrence Central tells us that he has much recruiting interest from Iowa State, Bowling Green, Bradley , and Central Michigan..
6-5 Brandon Cole of Ben Davis will need to play at BD but he already is widely known as a very good prospect..
If Cole pans out as a viable Prospect, he will entertain interest from Purdue, Xavier and Indiana State
