INDBASKETBALNEWS@AOL.COM Nov. , 1999Thomas, Dokes Sign Early!!
November 10th both 67" Aaron Thomas, Northridge and 69" Ronald Dokes, South Bend Riley both told IBN they couldnt decide and would wait until April. Late surges by Robert Morris for Thomas and Ball State for Dokes was enough to change their minds. Wide body highly skilled Thomas is a solid recruit for low division one Robert Morris. 69" Dokes has been rapidly improving his game to fit his size 20 shoes and he now has become a solid high major prospect. 66" Matt Backs of Marion also had trouble deciding but chose Elon because of academics, the beautiful campus and freshman prospective playing time. 65" 235lb. David Beigh of Lafayette Harrison has decided to use his 90MPH fast ball for his education at Oklahoma State University. IBN applauds preps that widely pursue their best sport in college ala Scott Rolen (a former tremendous hooper at Jasper High School) who now is with the Philadelphia Philly organization.

JUCO Report
Monthly we hope to recognize the achievements of Hoosiers in Junior Colleges. Barton County in Texas sent New Albanys Lamont Roland to LSU this year and went and signed Hoosiers Eric Bush(Anderson) Jamaal Davis (Merrillville-Purdue) and Carlton Baker (East Chicago.) 7-0 through Nov. 21, Eric Bush is leading the show with 12 PPG and 10APG;. Hes interested in Hawaii, Texas Tech, Bowling Green, Nebraska and LSU. Purdue transfer Jamaal Davis at 68" 230lb. seemingly has mentally matured and is producing 21 PPG and 11RPG. UCLA, LSU, Auburn, Oklahoma, Iowa, Iowa State and Washington State he says are his top 7. 66" Carlton Baker has earned his GED, is becoming a disciplined student and is averaging 4 rim rattling dunks, 23 PPG and 9RPG. He says his favorite schools are Iowa, UMASS, Wyoming, Fresno State, UNLV, LSU, UCLA, Ball State or the NBA. 511" Jason Carter of Gary Mann High School left for Barton County as soon as the IHSAA reneged on their earlier offer of hardship eligibility. Jason also has earned his GED--is not playing this year so when he graduates from Barton next year he will have 3 years of NCAA eligibility remaining. Jason states, "he is wide open to all schools." According to Eric Bush "Jason Carter is another Damon Stoudamire who may not even visit the NCAA.
IBN next visited with Vincennes Universitys Cameron Stephens. He will graduate from Vincennes this season as most Purdue credits transferred. Cam states that he and Aaron Mcgee (Oklahoma signee) and Aaron Hogg (65" Boss Hogg of Warren Central) battle every day in practice. Cam loves the long range bombs from Alan Goff (Terre Haute North) and Chris Sanders (North Know) but he says someone must step up at point guard. Camerons back is now healthy and no whirlpools are necessary before practice. Cams favorite schools now include Ball State, Oklahoma, Long Beach State, Tenn., Florida, Va. Tech, UMASS and he still talks with Purdue. Olney Central in Illinois is a Hoosier guard factory as former Vincennes prep and IUPUI star Lance Madison (assit.coach) reports no fewer than five former Hoosier preps are now playing well at guard for Olney. Anthony Kyle (Elkhart)
Brennon Clemmons (Northwest) Wes Attebury (Evansville) Michael Darrett (Evansville) and Kyle Bixler (Jeffersonville.)65" East Chicago bench warmer Marcellous Randolph is long and scoring 15 PPG and grabbing 6RPG at South Suburban College. 66" Prentiss "I never played at Wirt in Gary" is playing extremely well at West Hills Juco in California. 63" Derek Jones of Anderson defined the word "suspect" in High School but his Michael Jordan hang time intrigued all watchers. Hopefully his maturity is rising at Mt. St. Jacinto in California. 60" stud Travus Wright of Muncie South is at Highland in Kansas and Ft. Wayne-Waynes top 1999 player Mike Rutledge is at Sauk Valley, Illinois with 63"Quincy Rutledge also from the Fort but from Ft. Wayne North side. 67" Vincent Hart of Gary
Westside was"thrown out of Hutchinson but reportedly landed in Chaffey California. Why would NFL football prospect 58" Maurice Noethtich play basketball in an Illinois JUCO? The Anderson Highland grad maybe making the same mistake that Otis Shannon Cathedral is tempted to make and that the Hoosier archives are famous for--64" Herb Dove (Perry Meridian), 64"Marlon Fleming (Southport), 66" Juda Parks (East Chicago) are just a few glaring examples and Maurice apparently is headed down the same journey. IBN wishes him well and as always hopes all his career options have open windows. Ron Heflin Jr. is now 67" 210lb. and playing at Black Hawk College (Illinois). Other notables include Lafayette Central Catholics deep shooting Dan Shukraft at Owens Community College and 68" 210lb. Matt Boling (Lawrence North) at New Mexico Jr. College. Qualifying academically out of high school the "springy small forward" , Boling is eligible for the 2000-2001 NCAA Division one season.
Class of 2002 Prospects
As always our rankings are based on the college potential of the student athletes by projected playing position. Sophomore are "Intriguing as puberty dominates their life and many will blossom while the early matures may drop off the rankings altogether. Some of the top ranked prospects have had great varsity season but must continue to raise their "games" or they will drop as others grow and improve.

Hoosiers Playing Professionally
1992 East Chicago Central graduate 64" Marlon Anderson was the Southland Conference player of the year for Texas San Antonio in 1996. Taking his game to Greece and San Antonio where his combo guard skills average 25 points per game, Marlons work ethic now commands $150,000 per European six month campaign. Currently in Indianapolis, Anderson is contemplating offers from Chile, Venezuela in January or hooking up with Keith Smarts Ft. Wayne Fury. All time Hoosier nice guy and Former Miami Ohio and Wyoming head coach Joby Wright has resurfaced in Cincinnati as their entrys head coach in the International Basketball league.
Friends--Our purpose in September 1997 was to promote the Best Players in America! The Country offers thousands of grants for kids that can play!!! We will never misrepresent a kids ability but why most coaches dont respond to our simple question is a huge mystery! Does anyone else promote Indiana kids worthy of scholarships??? Who??? How???? Furthermore, we arent and never will be Garry Donnas cash cow of revenue.
We are a monthly newsletter that relies on our 423 college customers to help defray expenses that mount up as we research the states top college prospects. Frustrated? No! but miffed that more head coaches dont want to help all their scholarship worthy players. Basketball is a huge vehicle that Indiana Preps are not close to using.
